of not being able to touch powder, like flour, baby powder, anything of that consistency, it gives me shivers down my spine! Wondering if that would be called a phobia, and what name, and if anybody else has it?

Oh yea, and I can't touch dirt. If I have even the slightest bit of dirt or dust from touching something, I have to wash my hands.

That's really interesting! I have a problem with touching plates, glasses, etc that have just been washed and dried. Pulling them out of the dishwasher, or drying a dish that's been sitting in a dish drainer gives me the chills. I have gotten the chills 3 times just from typing this out. There's something about the feeling of it against the skin of my fingers, it just feels horrible.
My sister can't stand it when people scratch or rub their toes across a carpet. THAT gives her the chills. I think it's just different things with everyone!

Well I kind of have the same problem, but I can't touch chalk (like to write on a board or a sidewalk). And cotton balls, I hate cotton balls! Have you ever heard a cotton ball rip in half? That is the ultimate worse thing in the whole world!

Anyway you could have a phobia or you could have a slight O.C.D. But if it is OCD, you would do other things like wash your hands a lot, count things, alphabetize things, not touch any thing w/ germs on it, and there are a ton of other things you may do.
Are powdering things the only things you can't touch?
It really is not that weird, I also can't be in the same room with egg cartons and I like to count everything. Well that is really all I can think of.

I don't think its a phobia because you are apparently not afraid of it - you just don't like it. A phobia is an irrational fear.

Some people can't stand sticky stuff. I kind of like powdery stuff, although I may have a similiar thing as you have when it comes to feeling the grit on the floor when someone brings in mud and it dries. My thing is way beyond not liking dirt. I feel it through my shoes and get horrendously agititated (or something). It isn't about any germ phobia or anything like that. Its the feel of it I can't tolerate.

Phobia or sensory? Sometimes its difficult to tell. Maybe you had a bad experience related to powder when you were young? Is it worth pursuing that? Only you can answer that. I've never heard of anyone having a problem with powder, it is pretty unusual. Touch is a funny thing, and can be very subjective. Don't get me near woolen clothing!!!!

thats wierd, I can touch all those powdery things but if I see someone else rubbing it around or using it I get the same thing. Dust on a floor being mopped is horrible too.
Like some people cant stand the screetching sound of nails on a blackboard, thats how I feel.
Try wetting your hands before you touch the dusty stuff.

Your question reminds me of a Guy that I worked with. I tried to give him a banana one day and he gave me this look and said he a thing about not eating bananas with spots on it so I kind of shrugged it off and offered it again he look At me and said no I'm serious but I didn't tell he suffered from a phobia. Needless to say he never called me back.

I dont think it's a phobia really, some people just have sensory issues with different textures. Sounds like something like that to me.
