The most preposterous notion that H. sapiens has ever dreamed up is that the Lord God of Creation, Shaper and Ruler of all the Universes, wants the saccharine adoration of His creatures, can be swayed by their prayers, and becomes petulant if He does not receive this flattery. Yet this absurd fantasy, without a shred of evidence to bolster it, pays all the expenses of the oldest, largest, and least productive industry in all history.

FWI for some. Heinlein was not disputing God, he was being critical of the industry called organized religion.

Agree. If he's supposedly a loving God, why would he care who adores and flatters him?

Well, Lazarus Long was pretty old and the books about him were pretty large and reading them sure did feel like a waste of time. But no, he's wrong. Look what happened to Cain. Nice vegetables, bad attitude. What did that get him? Madness, homicide, exile and a big rubber stamp on the forehead! Who needs that? Bring your gift before the Lord with a SMILE on your face! (And they'd better be PERFECT too!)

Heinlein's "For Us The living"? The gods of the previous have been basically the comparable, petulant, egocentric, sucking up compliment, prayers and bloody sacrifices, and various times forgetting to do what they have been asked to do interior the 1st place. between the failings the Christian god has inherited from each and all of the previous gods is that he each and every from time to time "solutions" your prayers and each from time to time does not, and Christians settle for that as element of His creepy arbitrary character.

Strongly agree. Apparently the rebuttal for this is simply, " Ha! Where did we come from then? You can't tell me different! Zing! Gotcha!"
I call this the big sister argument. They might add, snidely, " And, don't be so SNIDE! I have feelings!"

Disagree.
If we assume we made ourselves we are getting way to full of ourselves.
But in this day of easy living, comforts, and wealth it is natural for so many of us to get lazy and self-centered.
Peace!
