No, man WILL NOT destroy the heavens and the earth. Only God has the power and authority. This includes all of the universe, even further than man can see.

well my theory is that when the nukes start falling, the end is here...Jesus will save those when enough humans have suffered in fire for all of their sins....i also believe that Bush is the anti-christ...he will continue to provoke korea and iran and those two countries will teamup...they wil both have nukes and will use them...a draft will be conducted in USA and millions of christians (americans) will die...it will be a bloody and firey finish...but it is not to far off

It means that God will send fireballs out of the sky like he did for Sodom and Gomorrah, and destroy the wicked earth, not the righteous. 2Peter 3:13.
Look at Creed's, Arms Wide Open video, if you want a clue.

It doesn't say exactly, but many Christians think President Bush should start World War Three and that that will make Jesus come back.

The earth itself is not going to be destroyed. It's the system that we live in that's going to be destroyed.

Its open to interpretation.
I would take it in its literary sense and not read too much into it.
