The number of wise men is not given (Matthew 2:1 and 2:7). The traditional notion that there were 3 stems from the number of gifts they brought.

I don't know but there were 3 gifts: gold, fankincense and myrrh. I would guess that they came from 3 different places. But there was at least 2 wise men, maybe 1 brought 2 gifts. So my answer is 2 or more....

Oh how the texts were distorted, and folk mistaught.....*sigh* The "sensible adult males" or Sages used Astrology of their personal conception structures. bear in mind, those were truly like severe monks of numerous international locations and religions. The Sages said something in the sky that they believed replaced right into a foretelling of an important journey for mankind. They were so compelled by technique of what that they had seen of their astrological readings, they had to shuttle to work out this journey. Jesus replaced into in deed a minimum of two yrs old at the same time as the Sages ultimately made it to Bethlehem. I advise, heavily, if the repute replaced into there at the same time as Jesus replaced into born, and the Sages got here from as a concepts away as eastern Asia, how did they get there interior of an afternoon?!? The common sense's of it in basic terms do no longer upload up. notwithstanding, when you consider that there is no record from any historic civilization that states this journey befell, OR that their Sages went to work out this journey - it sorta places a damper on the finished tale. The similarities to different memories in different a lot older religions aside. besides, there is no data in any respect to signify Herod ordered the lack of life of children. None. btw - impressive to work out newbie "theologians" in right here attempt to make tutor they comprehend more advantageous than Matthew - an author of the BIBLE.

In the Book of Matthew chapter 2 verse1-11
Though in this passage of verse, it does not say how many wisemen there were. It says in verse 11 that they presented three gifts of Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh, so maybe we are thinking there are only 3 wisemen. There could have many more not mentioned, nor their gifts. Something for us to ponder

There were Kings from the Orient or the East who came to visit the Christ Child. There were three gifts given. They were Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh. At that time, they were gifts given only to kings and not to commoners. But being lead by astrological signs, they were convinced of his validity as the pre-destined King of the Jews and his Messianic destiny.

Cool really...the first baby shower.

the Bible doesn't specify, but the 3 gifts were actually a foreshadowing of his death. Gold, Frankencense and Murr were items used to prepare bodies for burial in ancient times. Anyway, 3 wise men.....are you serious???

The Bible doesn't specifically say how many wise men went to see baby Jesus.

In Matthew 2:1 it says,

"Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,"

There is nothing in the Bible that says they were 3. These people used to travel in groups so I guess that they were more than three.

Tradition says 3. Jesus received 3 gifts, one per wise men.

And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.
