Okay, logically, I know the broken, infected, painful, nerve-exposed wisdom tooth will not feel better if I beat up my own face, but I've been living on Tylenol for five years and I've been told by two different dentists that the thing needs to be extracted surgically. However, the oral surgeons seem to insist on doing a consultation first, and then they can work me in an appointment sometime in the next few months.
I have a stomach ulcer and was hospitalized last year because I took asperin to help with the pain (didn't know about the ulcer at the time), and now, the ONLY over-the-counter medicine I can take is Tylenol. And Tylenol is worthless when up against the pain that has kept me up for two days.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get this done sooner? If I go to the ER, would someone at the hospital be able to remove the tooth?

They can't do this in the ER. They might refer you to the oral surgery department if it is a major teaching hospital and you would be seen quicker.
An oral surgeon NEEDS to have a consult with you, because they don't know if they need to save 20 minutes or 2 hours without seeing you first. They need to discuss any risks with you so that you can make an informed decision about the surgery.
It's hard to imagine having to wait "months" to see an oral surgeon unless you have a very restrictive insurance plan. Check for another surgeon or ask, "How soon could you see me if I paid full price out of pocket?" This is called, "Learning About HMO Coverage the Hard Way."
In the meantime, for the weekend, sleep on an extra pillow to elevate your head. Sleep on the side that does NOT have a toothache. If that doesn't work, you can move to a recliner or the sofa so you can keep your head really elevated. This will minimize the blood flow to the area and therefore minimize the throbbing and pain. This might help you make it through the night until you can see a dentist.

Hello mate, i am a qualified dental nurse and really do feel for you.
The only thing i can suggest is going to a hospital where they actually have a emergecncey department and see if they can help, the only problem with trying to extract the tooth if you are so much pain would be trying to numb the area to enable the extraction to take place.
Try taking Nurofen as this acts as an anti-immflammatry as well as a pain klller, and this will hopefully help reduce any swelling which you may have around the affected area.
Hope this helps a wee bit.

I don't have an answer for getting the tooth removed sooner, but I suggest you take a couple of extra strength sinus/allergy capsules. Tylenol has them. The antihistamine will really help relieve the pain.
I am allergic to all pain medication, and I mean all. I have a condition called sjogren's that leaves me with much tooth pain, and when needed that is all that will work. Years ago, the dentist told me I was somewhat stupid when I told him that, but now days, it is obvious they use more antihistamines for pain relief in many conditions. Live and learn Doc.
Breaking your face will definitely not help!! :) Hope you feel better soon.

Go immediately to your local Hospital (this is if you are a pensioner), and ask for an emergency for you tooth to be extracted surgically. On the other hand, just pay a Dentist to do the job now!!. The consequences for not doing all the above, can produce a worse outcome on your mouth, at a very expensive cost!!.

A. Call the dentist. Tell them you're in extreme pain, and need to be seen now.
B. Tell the dentist about the pain. Have him prescribe some hydrocodone to help manage the pain.
C. Have the tooth removed as soon as possible.
D. Don't let anything painful go on and on...certainly not for five years.

When I was younger I had very bad teeth and horrible toothaches. The best thing I found was to take vodka and hold it in my mouth on the bad tooth. You can spit it out, you don't have to swallow it. If you hold it on the tooth a few minutes the pain goes away. Sometimes I had to repeat this in about 1/2 hr. as the paid came back, but I seldom had to do it more than twice for the paid to go away for the evening or the day. You can use any booze, but I used vodka as the taste was less. I feel for you, I remember how bad this was. This worked for me every time.

Call some dental surgeons. Tell them you have an infected wisdom tooth. Find the one who will examine you and remove it the same day. A few months? That's lame, ridiculous and difficult to even believe. Get on the phone, you'll have it out by the middle of next week.

Find another oral surgeon. If it is infected they will need to extract it asap. There will be a consultation visit to get your medical history, allergies to medicines etc... They will sedate you pretty heavily to extract the tooth. If it is impacted they may put you under all the way. It is a safety issue that the consult is done before hand.

Hi, About your toothache....Did you know that clove pills will take away the pain? I know that it's not pertaining to your hobby, but if you want the pain to go away until you address that issue, it works wonders. I ordered it from the site below. It took about 2 days. You can also google toothache and cloves if you want to research it. Sorry about the hobby thing, no suggestions there. I hope you feel better...

Call around! If it hurts that bad, they CAN get you in as an emergency case. They did for me, I litterally wanted to shoot my own head off. I got in that same day.
Don't be afraid to sound like you're in pain when you call. I know some people try to suck it up just so they're understandable on the phone, but if you hide it from them, they can't give you the urgent care you need.
If you call the doctors, all they will be able to do is give you a shot... Just like the ones at the dentist, but I don't think they'll be able to remove your tooth.
