Sit in a nice warm bath with him, sing to him, and then try to put him down, Or just walk him around the neighborhood in the stroller with him, it worked for me.

Be a mom and make your child take a nap. Read the guildlines on how much sleep a child that age could help, They actually recommend 2 naps for 2 year olds. According to the "parents" mag. If hes not getting tired, Get him out side in the yard. Fresh air wont hurt him one bit. And he will be sleepy from that. About an hour before bed, do a "quite" activity and throughout the morning remind him that nap time is comming. When nap times hits (always keep it the same EVERYDAY) ask him where he wants to sleep. On his bed or on the floor? usually they will pick the floor :) and let him help you make his bed. Make it fun for him and eventually he will get in the routine of taking daily naps and you will have no problem. Our boys all napped and when nap time comes now for our 3 year old. He goes in lays down and goes right to sleep. They need their rest.GOODLUCK!!

A story before nap time is an excellent idea..it gives their minds a chance to unwind and it's a nice quiet activity to settle them down some plus the added bonus is reading from an early age is shown to make them smarter and have a good interest in reading and books before school. There's all kinds of activities to do with a 2 yr old when they're bored..it's such a fun age. Have fun with him..play with him then a story then a nap..should work..good luck

Playdough has been a lifesaver for me. Or do you have a young teen aged girl in your neighborhood? My daughter is 13 and is a great mother's helper at times. When my son won't nap, I let my daughter take over and keep him occupied for a while (she has the energy to dance with him and his CD's).
I don't know what it is about the naps at this age. One day my son, who is also 2, won't take one and then the next day he'll be out for 3 hours. It can be frustrating. Good luck.

Children sleep on different schedules. But I find for myself I need to find something to help myself relax before I go to sleep if I am wound up. I learned long ago if I put on a slow soft music video the children go to sleep better. I use to put on the Jungle Book by Disney because the colors are dark and the music is relaxing. After awhile Kyla would say I do not like that one because she knew it put her to sleep she thought she did not like it. But I put it on anyways she would be so tired she had stopped running around and it would put her to sleep. Separate the child, and put it in an environment that is not stimulating. I can never figure out the parents I know putting them to bed with anything like an exciting kids cartoon thinking it will put them to sleep. No it will not. I drink warm milk and it helps me.
My niece said to me once that the kids will not settle down at night so I have gone over in the past for a few evenings had them outside given them a little chocolate and convinced them to run around alot. The next thing I know they are worn out and ready to sleep. Then I went from there to just letting them run around wear themselves out so they fell asleep. I know parents will say do not do this but it was to show them the differences in food etc. Now they are not allowed chocolate after a certain hour.

Well..if there was a playground near by, that would help. But if you dont want to leave the house, play catch with him. You can sit on the couch, throw him a ball, and when he misses it, he'll have to run after it. He should get tired eventually.

there are a few good ideas about not tire him out here..is he is not tired then let him be, so he sleeps all night long...
there are several things you need to answer here....
what time do you put him to bed at night?
what time do you wake him up in the morning?
what do you FEED him? a lot of sugary stuff ..this will affect his staying awake....check the food labels...
what type of activity do you do with him through out the day?
and if he is sleep ALL night then leave him be..or maybe he will wake up at night..that's much worse...
good luck

Try wrapping him in a blanket, holding him and reading him a story in a low soothing voice. If you have a rocking chair, that is even better, not only will you bond with your child, reading to them is a great thing for them, and it will keep him from being bored and he will drift off into a sweet child dream land.

Take sheets and make a (tent) over the furniture. Give him a snack to eat in there. My kids loved it!
Teach him to do a somersault, play hide and seek with him, let him play in the bathtub with some toys.

attempt this advantageous to artwork.... positioned the television in his room. do no longer point out the nap word around your son from this factor on. Now only enable him understand at midday known "he gets to video show television like the massive young toddlers on a similar time as laying on his mattress if he behaves all morning". while it somewhat is time for him to bypass in the mattress room positioned the television directly to a tape or channel while the tape is over positioned an uneventful application on (Christian Broadcast Channel is uninteresting to young toddlers or simular). enable him understand he can lay quiet till the subsequent tutor comes on, tell him to close his eyes on commericals so the tutor gets on swifter, he will fall alseep each and every time! once you are trying this make advantageous the television is only used for only before nap or bedtime, then he knows he watches it in his room while he's laying down in ordinary terms. turn it off if he gets up, jumps around or for any reason does no longer lay nevertheless (tell him massive boys do no longer act like that). choose a time a million/2 hour only before nap or mattress for the 1st a million/2 hour application that he likes. If possible use a tape so the televison will bypass immediately to an uneventful television tutor after. tell him on commericals to close his eyes till the tutor comes back on (they think of it somewhat is a interest and quickly they fall alseep). depart the mattress room door open, yet do no longer start up stepping into or it somewhat is going to be each and all of the time. Do the comparable only before mattress time. turn off lights fixtures once you are trying this in the night. enable him think of he earned this as a huge boy does. the 1st tape will calm him, even despite if it somewhat is power rangers. Commericals close eyes would be terrific. Then the voice without relaxing on the 2d 0.5 will positioned him to sleep. The word NAP or Bedtime will set off him to act out, evade the words. it somewhat is only time he earned to video show television in mattress.
