Social stories work really well for children with autism, especially high functioning autism. You can google "social stories Carol Grey" (author). I work with children ages 3-5 with developmental delays, including autism, aspergers, pdd, etc. I have a lot of success with these social stories, most of which I create for a tailor-made strategy specifically for the child. You can get more info from austism websites. Try polyxo.com and google "CARD", Center for Autism & Related Disorders.
Good luck.

There are excellent behavior management studies and techniques out there. If needed meds should be the last resort. Someone did a news story on this. Where the kids were awarded for good behavior while working on skills. They were sitting across the table and the parents watched and learned. Anyone see this?

20 months is far to early to be diagnosed with autism, a toddler can easily grow out of these behaviors. autism doesn't become clear until at least 10.

A friend went to a Naturapath and followed the diet and natural remedies with surprising results. Its has changed both her life and her little girls. Lots of love and patience helped too and a good support group. The biggest problem she encountered was well meaning friends and relatives breaking the diet and remedy pattern, she had to get very stern with them to stop them. Good luck and be kind to yourself also.

studies in america have shown that if the parents are able to communicate with autistic children they way that they communicate to others and then gradually indrotudce normality into theirs lives cuts down on the need for drugs. This could take a couple of years which could be worth it rather than pumping your child with drugs. this is a suggestion please look into it more.

what else have you tried? Behavior management strategies? I work with teens who have autism, but to be fair they are low functioning, so the techniques we use may not work for you.
