The person with the "graven image" quote has a point that I had never considered. However, that verse is in the context of the golden calf story, telling people that you cannot have an idol. A picture is just that, unless you worship and pray TO it. As long as you understand in your heart that it is a symbol of your faith, and that when you pray, you have a direct line and don't need images or idols or statues, then I say you're all good.
Of course, there are no photos of Jesus, or of God, because these was no photography when Jesus was here, and we can't see the face of God, so I'm sure he avoids papparazzi (haha). But a symbol of your faith so that all who walk in your home, or wherever, can know you and be blessed by you doesn't seem wrong to me.
I'd pray about it. If it feels wrong in your heart, then maybe God's trying to tell you something. That's what the "direct line" is for, after all.

No it is not a sin. The prohibiting about graven images is from when before Jesus died and went to Heaven. Before that time all that was allowed was things that were already in Heaven (the Cherubim and Seraphim moldings on top of the Ark, the lamp stands etc. This was to represent what was in Heaven at that time and there was no other created thing there no people, no animals etc.). Now that Jesus has ascended to Heaven--he IS there and so is his Mother and so are the other Saints so it is o.k. to have replicas of what is in Heaven as they are reminders. We do not worship them but, we honor what they represent.

Some people did a computer image of the shroud of Turan. And gave away thousands of pictures of the person most believe is the image of Jesus. I have one and I love it. No, it's not a sin.

If you are talking about the commandment about Idols, then no. An Idol is something that takes away from the worship of God. A picture of Jesus shouldn't do that.

Just to have one? No. I love Christian artists' depictions. Del Parson is my favorite, also Greg Olsen. And there are many others. I think having a picture of Jesus Christ in your house helps ward off evil spirits - if you are also doing your best to keep the commandments, as well.

NO. There may be pictures in this world of JESUS, yet we can only go by what people have said HE looks like. If you love JESUS and have a picture of Him, its OK! At least you have a picture of him and not the DEVIL

isn't there some religious law against Idol worship- I think a picture, statute or crucifix would count as an idol so I would say yes it is a sin. BUT I am not religious and am not real familiar with all the laws of religion

Why would it be? I, personally, don't think any picture man has created looks anything like him. I'm thinking he looks more like a man of the Middle East- black thick coarse hair, big, long nose, brown eyes, darker skin...But if you wish to look to the picture as...a symbol, maybe of him, I don't know. There are "pictures" of Christ in every church- must be okay then.
