Meditation can actually bring you closer to God.
When you meditate, you try to ignore every noise around you and just let the silence fill you. Sometimes, it is only in silence that we can sense God himself.
Do you recall the story of Moses going up to the mountain and waiting for God? He saw an earthquake, a fire and a storm, yet God was not any of those things. Instead, Moses found God in the silence.

Meditation, in the christian sense, is not thinking about nothing and clearing your mind, but focusing and meditating on one thing, like a Bible verse for instance.
"But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. " Psalm 1:2
"I will meditate on all your works and consider all your mighty deeds. " Psalm 77:12
"I remember the days of long ago; I meditate on all your works and consider what your hands have done." Psalm 143:5

What you're meditating ON is more important to God than the practice of meditating itself. Sorry if this disillusions you, but the mind is a processing tool and will always be processing something, some kind of information. This is the design of the mind. It's up to you to direct the flow of input and output.

It depends on what you meditate on. Pslam 1:2 "But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night." Soo if you meditate on GOD word you will be blessed.

Meditation is always good. It lets you interact with yourself and just think about things and makes you feel better.

Greetings,
It is allright as long as you are meditating over a faith problem that you are facing and not using it as a spiritual enlightenment for yourself.

1 Tim 4:12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
1Ti 4:13 Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.
1Ti 4:14 Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.
1Ti 4:15 MEDITATE UPON THESE THINGS; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.
1Ti 4:16 Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.
Meditate simply means to give your thoughts over too. To think about. It is something that God wants His children to do.
Notice what Timothy is told to meditate upon in these verses.
