"The death toll among Iraqis as a result of the US-led invasion has now reached an estimated 655,000, a study in the Lancet medical journal reports today.
The figure for the number of deaths attributable to the conflict - which amounts to around 2.5% of the population - is at odds with figures cited by the US and UK governments and will cause a storm, but the Lancet says the work, from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore, has been examined and validated by four separate independent experts who all urged publication.
In October 2004, the same researchers published a study estimating that 100,000 Iraqis had died as a result of the war since the beginning of the March 2003 invasion, a figure that was hugely controversial. Their new study, they say, reaffirms the accuracy of their survey of two years ago and moves it on." - Sarah Boseley
G. Bush disagrees with this figure, what do you think?

No one knows the correct answer. The US government made a point of not counting civilian casualties for over 2 1/2 years. The 45,000 figure that Bush agrees with comes from a group in England that was shocked by this callousness. They started tallying deaths based on news reports of bombings, battles, etc.
Saddam had a very accurate census of the country prior to the invasion. I suspect that paper copies of these have been preserved, and when the Iraq civil war is over, someone will do a tally that is accepted by people in the Arab world.

I think what's important is for everyone to agree on a minimum figure. Say that figure is 100,000 innocents ... and say 33,000 are directly attributable to US engagement, while the other 67,000 would be almost entirely attributable to the war itself.
That's A. Part B is coming to terms with this horrendous pile of bodies of moms and dads and kids due to a decision opposed by the world community and based on bad information, made by a man who's not all that bright, and which was supported by a press and population bloodthirsty after 19 guys who are totally unrelated to Iraq did a terrible thing.
Imagine if just 10,000 innocent bodies were piled up in Michigan after the Oaklahoma City bombing.

I'd trust a BIAS survey over Bush any day! He's on a roll, he just can't STOP lying. People need to inform themselves that these (Iraqi) lives are INNOCENT men, women and CHILDREN. Sure there's some bad guys in there, but not enough to sacrifice EVEN ONE innocent life. I'm sick of this war I really wish I could do something BUT WHAT? Besides vote? I answered yours, now answer mine.

know what amazes me - that they supposedly can report how many are injured or killed on a given day but have no clue how many prisoners of war are still and yet unaccounted for
something wrong with that picture!

When some group asks a question they ask it in a way that they will get the desired results they want. This is what I believe that this group did.
