To be on the safe side, stick with the new testament and the ten commandments. The old is good for history, wisdom and seeing the prophesies and going to the new testament to see where many have already been fulfilled.

It sounds like you are earnestly seeking answers and also sound like an intelligent person.
But I would like for you to consider this analogy: Taking verses from one book in the Bible and then a group of verses from another to come up with a contradiction is like the person who takes certain steps from one recipe in a cookbook on one page and then certain steps from a recipe in another page. Could you imagine what that food would taste like? It probably would not taste very good would it? Now for a master chef, they might be able to pull it off if they combine the right steps together.
It's the same when you look at various verses and try to put them together. It may or may not work. That's why we talk about taking verses into context.
I'm no Bible scholar, but I've read the Bible through a couple of times and then studied in depth certain passages in various translations to make sure I understand the context. I still make mistakes on interpretation, but my point in this: Yes there are contradictions in the Bible if you combine verses like the inexperienced cookbook analogy, but once you start to read it in the context, it does make more sense.
I am not trying to insult you here and I apologize if it comes off that way. As far as I know, Constantine had absolutely nothing to do with what went into or what didn't go into the Bible.
Hope this helps!

In the bible there are references to people who are appointed by God to carry out judicial actions (Romans 13:4). Individually, we do not have the same license. Perhaps your references involve directions to these two groups of people, one with a mandate to carry it out, the other not to shed blood and to live in peace.
There are books published that deal with apparent discrepancies in the Bible. I found it of help in my early years as a believer. Ultimately, we must embrace 2 Tim. 3:16-17 by faith. Spend more time in the word, putting it into practice, and the doubts will eventually go away.

Murder is taking a life out of ill will toward another person, most likely out of hatred.
Killing is simply taking a life not out of ill will. Can be because following the commandments of God, punishment by the government, accidental, etc.

If you look at the greek text there are many diferen't words for kill.
Theres murder which is in the ten comandmants. Corpral punisment is another one of the words. Another one is accidental killing, So really you have to read the greek text in order for that to make complete since.
Good question

one refers to wanton and needless murder, the other allows the death penalty to purge evil from the land. as paganism was rampant back then and the pagans had their own prophets and sent them among the Jews and christians at that time, the bible also says if you kill needlessly you must forfeit your life but killing in a J just war is allowed againgst a criminal nation and Government. soliders sailors, airforce, police all act under god's command as his adminsitraters of Justice. we are allowed also to kill in self defense and to protect our families.

God's law was not opposed to capital punishment for certain sins. Murder is killing someone in opposition to the law.
