I have 4 things I try.. in this order...
1. turn neck to left and then to right.. trying to let the joint pop.... [ear to shoulder]
2. Biofreeze [chiropracters, sports trainers, some health supplies stores and drugstore.com sell it]. It is the bomb for muscle stiffness
3. ICE.... Ice can reduce inflamation
4. Make an appointment with the chiropracer for adjustment.... This is only if 1-3 fail and I still hurt..
Good luck

Professional massage. Your neck will probably feel better after one visit, or it could take a few appointments. Go treat yourself!
