I have been following the recent developments in the online poker industry, and I have not heard anything specific to Maryland. However, I suggest that you research to find the facts.
One online poker site that has pledged to continue to accept US players is Poker.com. They are having a special promotions just for US players:
Go to http://www.pokercs.com/_53843fdc33aad464e4d515c6d7cbb38b/ and sign up for a new account.
Use Bonus Code FREEDOMFREEROLL with your first deposit and you will receive:
- Entry into the $5,000 Freedom Freeroll on October 28, 2006
- Entry into a $500 freeroll for new depositers
- 100% reload bonus up to $500
Keep in mind that it is NOT illegal to play poker online. The new law makes it illegal for a bank or financial institution to transfer funds to an illegal gambling site. It does not make playing online poker a criminal act. FirePay had announced that they will not transfer funds from a US account to a gambling site, but NetTeller is still transferring funds. Good luck at the tables!

I've done a full article reviewing the details of the so-called "Internet Gambling Ban". The page includes a link to all sites allowing American players.
Apparently the only State with a specific law against Internet Poker is Washington.

There IS no ban! The Act Bush signed changes nothing. DON'T PANIC!!

I heard a news story recently that lawmakers are working on a law that makes it illegal for a bank or credit card company to allow you to charge anything to an online poker/gambling site.
They are supposed to refuse the charges and NOT let you put money into a gambling website.
This may be the source of your rumor, except it'll affect the whole US, not just Maryland.

You have to be joking... they're making internet poker illegal nationally? Gambling is one of things chosen by the states. I doubt that they'll make interenet poker illegal, but I'm not sure.

Congress pass and Bush sign a Federal Law to make almost all Internet gambling illegal. I am not sure when it takes effect.
