the best thing to do is not doing it but if you are going to do it anyway, get a dragon, that would look cool and you could wrap it around the knuckle.

I think that a tattoo running down the side of your finger would be interesting....I've never seen one and it seems potentially awesome. I have seen hand and finger tattoos that have faded and blurred. Which means that you will either have to get it touched up every few years or live with a faded tattoo. I know some artists do free touch ups for any of their work, but others don't. So it could get costly if you have to pay. If you do it, I wouldn't get something intricate or detailed. That will look worse blurry than a simple piece. I would think that healing might be difficult. Your hands go through a lot of wear and tear, especially if you have a job that requires you working with your hands. Your fingers rub together, you wash your hands a lot (or at least should), paper cuts, burns, animal bites. It seems like it would be difficult to keep clean. And you would always have to make sure that you have sunblock on your hands (or just have one pale finger). I would try to draw something (or have someone else draw) on the side of your finger with a sharpie and see how long it lasts and how it looks by the end of the day. It won't be the same as a tattoo (obviously). But if it looks like crap after only a few hours, it might be something you want to rethink. Good luck with whatever you decide!!

Not sure if you're male or female... I like the dragon idea too. What about a snake, a flowering vine, something in Morse code, an Arabic or French script phrase, a chameleon... some long-bodied critter that looks like it's moving as your finger moves. Maybe a permanent ring, or a spiral ring?
But I also agree that a finger tat might be something you should reconsider. You and your group of friends may think it's the greatest idea now, but what's your life going to be like in 5, 10, 20 years? Will a finger tat be an embarassment at work? How much will it cost in money and pain to get it lasered off? What will potential in-laws or girlfriend/wife think about it? It's not like a moustache or beard you can shave off, or hair color you can change.
If you do decide to go ahead with a finger tattoo, be sure the studio uses an autoclave and new ink and needles for each customer. An insurance agent friend had a $1,000,000.00 payout for a young man who died from infectious hepetitis caught from a tattoo. Just be smart and safe!

Well here's a site that I found while looking around I don't know if it will help or not, being the type of tattoo that you want it may be hard to find pics of it. Hope this helps...

Gen'l rule -> no tats that can be seen when wearing business casual attire. That leaves a lot of skin as canvas AND doesn't necessarily limit your future.
Plus. the wrinkles and other abrasions on a finger make it a poor place for a tat.

Probably a snake or a dragon would look the best. Basically any animal that has a long tail.

Try a Celtic art design or start with a ring and go bigger if you are still not happy with the look.
