Just a noise maker.
Modifying the exhaust won't give you that much more horsepower or torque. You will end up spending lots of money for only a 15 to 20 horsepower gain on a typical small block V8. Expect less gain on a 4 banger or V6. You will irritate your neighbors. And the loud exhaust will act as a cop caller.

If you are looking for more power, you would get much more bang for you buck by leaving the exhaust alone and adding a nitrous system.

You can get a decent nitrous system from $300 - $500 that will add 50 to 100 horsepower.

It is much more fun to have a quieter ride that will blow the doors off a car with loud pipes.

Are you going to have a pipe run out from under the car? If you just make a hole in the exhaust, carbon monoxide will get into the passenger compartment and could kill you or cause you to get drowsy and have an accident. Otherwise, it won't hurt anything. Master tech 40 yrs.

It might not hurt the car if you dump the exhaust properly. It might kill you if it dumps under the car -- carbon monoxide and humans do NOT mix!

And it will hurt your wallet quite a bit with all of the tickets you collect. And it might attract an undue (some would say due) number of rocks & tire irons from angry residents when you wake up the baby.

first im sure you will be violating several noise ordernances but other than that you could cause premature failure of the cat or engine if the cold air hits either of those. be smart and use you head, get the proper cat back system, it will improve performance and sound, what your talking about doing will only make you look like a fool

You didn't mention what kind of car it was. Some EGR
valves are back-pressure sensitive for proper operation
but as I said, you failed to give specifics. And yes, it
will be a noisemaker and any TQ / HP gain would be
negligible at best.

I wouldn't do it. You're asking for carbon monoxide poisoning.
