I just bought a 3 year old Cocker Spaniel from a couple and they always kept the dog outside. So for 3 years this dog was kept outside. I have tried potty pads but she totally ignores them.

It's best to catch the dog "in the act" and quickly take it outside. Some dogs catch on right away, some you need to reprimand vocally, a loud no or what not. My last dog took a while, I did end up getting quite mad at the dog before it finally got through his head. I really had to “growl” and I grabbed him by the scruff a bit. Yes, grabbed him by the scruff, I’m very bad.

And good lord, you NEVER hit a dog. Dog's don't respond well to hitting at all.

The best way to train a dog is using the crate method. When using this method you have to make the crate the dog’s home and safe area. If you put a bed in the crate with a blanket he will learn to love it. If you are not using a crate now, he will probably cry when placed in there at first. Make sure you feed him in the crate and put plenty of toys in there and within a week he will love it. Take him out of the crate every 2-3 hours and take him immediately outside UNTIL he uses the bathroom. It may take time for him to figure it out but a dog will naturally not use the bathroom where they sleep so this is absolutely the best method. When you take him outside do NOT play with him. Wait till he goes then take him back inside. After about 5 minutes you can take him back outside to play but DON'T play with him immediately before or after going. He must know he is to go to the bathroom. Also when you take him out to go, use a command over and over until he goes like, "POTTY". He will quickly learn that when you say "potty" he is to go. Then he goes back into the crate until you take him out again. After about a week or so, he should be getting the idea of going outside. You also don't want to carry him to the door unless you intend to do that for the rest of his life. Walk him to the door so that he learns the door is where you go when you want to go "POTTY". It's really not difficult, just time consuming. All dogs take time and dedication in any learning.

It's really hard 2 potty train a dog-for my dog it basically potty trained itself but it took her forever!!u could lay paper out and make the dog pee there and if it dont then put it on the paper or u could just take the dog outside 2 use the bathroom!

Cockers are very difficult to train, but responds best with a loving tone of voice and tons of praises. They are very intelligent and can read you better than you can read yourself.
You may have difficulties with the peeing part more than the pooping part but be patient, be constant, treat him well and considerately. If need be, keep the dog in a place that is easy to clean eg tiled floor. bathroom until he gets his act together.

take the dog out frequently. Praise it when it goes to the bathroom. If you can catch them in the act, get them right outside (don't just scold them, taking them outside shows them the soution) If you don't catch them in the act don't bother scolding them they wont get it. Also don't give them free reign of the house (when you are out) unitl they are house broken. Keep them in a confined area while you are away, crate, etc.

never leave the food and water down.....feed and water your dog and then take it back up till next time......let outside about 30 minutes later and that's that.........nothing going in nothing comming out.......i have 8 yorkies and it works great for them......the wee wee pads do also......when your dog pees, flip it over and absorb it in it and their scent will be on it....works better for older dogs

Take her outside more often and make sure you spank her when she does it in the house ( Make sure you only hit when it was just done or she wouldn't remember why).

Or kennel train. Good luck it worked for my three
