For those who say they follow the 10 commandments. How can these 10 rules decide whether you go to heaven or not when they are practically impossible to follow? How long before anyone on the planet breaks one of them, a day at most I would say. Some of them are just flat out ridiculous.

"Do not covet thy neighbors goods" As George Carlin said, "Coveting keeps the economy going, it creates jobs"

"Respect your parents." How many of us have disrespected our parents so many times before?

And according to the 10 commandments, merely lusting after a woman is already adultery.

"Do not bear false witness." One lie and you're a liar, we've all told lies havent we?

"Thou shall not murder." How many people have been killed in the name of god?

If these are the rules to get into heaven, then we are all seriously screwed. How can this be when they are so hard to follow?

I've seen this show you're talking about, and yes, using that interpretation, I agree. So let me see if I can clarify a few things....

" Do not Covet " is not reffering to " want" What it means is " do not find a legat, yet immoral way of getting your neighbors stuff from him." Sort of like stealing with out breaking the law. Ever been asked to sign a contract that was grossly unfair? That's coveting.

I agree with you " Do not Murder " no way around that one.

And no, there is no commandment that about having "happy thoughts ' about some one else. Just don't act on them. Why do you think God made masterbation possible?

Bearing false witness and lying are similar, but not the same. Bearing false witness is like saying ' Yes! I saw him steal those Ho-Ho's!' Like commiting purgery in a court room. Lying is something like ' Yes grandma. you cookies are excellent :)" That was just asking for your opinion. Nothing that would get anyone in trouble.

Respecting you parents.....Yup, that one is pretty much as it sounds.

Now do you see why Jesus is needed?

Simple rules that was never followed to the letter by few percentage. You may have read it everyday happening in many parts of the world. But, do you see it in your immediate neighborhood all the time?
The Ten Commandments could have been followed somehow; otherwise, you will never see a happy family, you will not have time to go to the mall, see a movie, enjoy this conversation over the internet. Media has played so much in our minds that they refuse to reports the good things all the time because it is boring and even if they are telling the truth, you cannot deny that they earn more on sensationalized news than a regular goods news all the time.
The Ten Commandments put people to the right course of existing among each other, there are just people who finds it hard to follow because it is always a human nature to rebel even to smaller things just amuse him.

In the book of Matthew, Jesus begins showing us "It is written" and "It was said by them of old times"....He is teaching how to read the Law which also is the Ten Commandments.
This looks like an instrument for viewing this concept poetry according to its intended perspective. This corrects the bias that we bring to the reading which defiles its true meaning.
We all have a bias, our understanding is based on knowing "this world" certainly as we live in it. Concepts presented in scripture are telling of The Kingdom of God, a world we do not yet see.

For instance: Whosoever looks on a woman to lust after her, has committed adultery with her already in his heart..
Clearly the concept could be seen as speaking about a flesh and blood person of the female gender but, it clouds the concept and defiles the message. Revelation reveals the bride as the New Jerusalem in the new earth.

You may think the ten commandments are hard to follow but it's real simple.
1. worship the Lord God and no other God.
2. Do not worship a false image.
3.Don't take the lords name in vain ( don't curse god out blaspheme).
4.Remember the sabbath Which is the seventh day of a work schedule and relax for god did.
5.Honor thy mother and father which is hard if your parents are alcoholic or substance abusers or just not there. But forgive them for they are human and they did their best so put them in your heart.
6.thou shalt not kill. This should be thou shalt not kill willingly
of course due to war blood is shed but you are doing it to uphold freedom.
7.do not commit adultery simple don't cheat on your wife or spouse.
8.don't steal.
9.don't bear false witness. Don't lye as to what you saw someone do if it's wrong.
10.thou shalt not covet. almost same as number 8 only in which it reflects feelings toward your neighbor. you shalt not take your neighbors wife, house, or any personal property in which it does not belong to you.

Those in full are your 10 commandments in which are not hard to live by as a man or woman it's based on integrity of free will. It is not based upon lust or any other feelings that is natural to man or woman.

Following the Ten Commandments do not get you into heaven. The only way to get to heaven is to believe in the word of God. The word of God is Jesus Christ (this is explained in the 1st chapter of the gospel of John). You must confess your sins, and give your life to Christ and except him as your Lord and Savior in order to make it to heaven. The Ten Commandments are rules for Christians to follow, to help them through life.

Example 1: If you are a liar, aren't there consequences? If you are lie constantly, it could effect your job, your family etc. The reason we are told not to lie is because it is for our own good.

Example 2: Lusting and coveting causes many problems in our lives. If you have 1 million dollars and someone wants to take it from you, so they decide to kill you for it, is that not wrong. It is one thing to see what someone else has and strive to get to that point so you can have the same thing. It is completely different if you want something that someone else has and you cause pain to them in order for you to have it. The same goes with backstabbing at work for promotions etc. Lusting can lead to adultery. It is like a seed. The same way we all learned that smoking weed can lead to worse drugs. It is a starter point.

Example 3: Killing in the name of the Lord is often masked for ones gain. In order to seem valid, you have to say God ordained it. The truth is people use the name of God when it is convenient. The U.S. is known as a Christian country but what our government does is contrary. We use His name because it is convenient, not because it is appropriate. You must also ask yourself what god they are serving. Are they referring to the Christian God or are they referring to the god of Islam. Don't forget that people worship various things. A god could be money, greed, fame etc. What "god" are they serving and killing for?

So, these rules do not get you into heaven, they help you live a better life. Only being redeemed by the blood of Jesus, being baptized in water and in spirit can get you on the path of going to heaven.

If a person was truely in line with God and open to what He wants, these 10 commandments would not be a problem.

God knows we are sinners. We sin everyday... even if we know it or not. However, we need to continuously talk to God about what He wants us to do. We need to ask for forgiveness and ask the Lord to cover our sins with His blood - because that is why he died on the cross.

Its about being in a relationship with your Lord... striving to be what He would want us to be. Once this relationship is established, the 10 commandments won't seem like such a big issue... they will be part of your values and habits.

Good guidelines to follow no matter what.

GOOD NEWS! Those are not the rules to get to Heaven. You only have to believe that Jesus died as a sacrifice for your sins, then rose again and is now in Heaven with His Father, God. After you believe that, you generally try to live a Godly life, which involves the Ten Commandments and the Beatitudes. Jesus said the most important thing is this: Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. He also said that the second most important thing is to love your neighbor as you love yourself. Pretty cool, huh?

The Bible tells us that the law is a schoolmaster, to bring us to Christ (Galatians 3:24), who in His life, death, and resurrection perfectly fulfilled the law.

As Christians, we know it is impossible to keep the law to the letter. However, it is God's revealed standard for how we should dictate our lives. Just because we can't keep the law, doesn't mean we shouldn't order our lives around it. Football players can't perfectly keep the rules, but that doesn't mean they cast off all restraint, grab the facemask, run outside of the boundaries, etc.

Do not be confused, the Bible clearly says that no one will be justified by keeping the law (Romans 3:20). And, as you very insightfully pointed out, if you break one law, you may as well have broken them all, and the Bible affirms this (James 2:10). Your only hope of salvation is to trust in Jesus Christ who came to propitiate (absolve) God's wrath towards us because of our breaking His law, by His death on the cross.

Hope this helps!

Booyakasha!

They are not hard to follow, they are impossible to follow. That is why Christ came to give His life for our sin.

The Law was to show us our need for a saviour.

Since all of our works (that includes good works) are as filthy rags in God's sight, they sure will not get us to heaven. To find out how to make sure you go...check the link below
