Depending on the size, there might not be anything we CAN do.
A tactical nuclear strike would probably be the only real hope, and that could backfire as it would create a lot of debris that would still rain down on us, possibly some massive chunks that could demolish entire cities.
But you know, in all honesty, the earth has survived this long and has been getting hit by asteroids the entire time, I'm not too worried. To top it all off, if an asteroid actually did hit fairy close to you, it would be over in a matter of miliseconds anyhow. The concussion blast would probably kill you by itself.

At the moment, we don't really have the technology to do much of anything. Changing its course is the only realistic option, and to do that would require knowing its orbital elements far in advance so that an intercepting mission could be launched early enough to change the object's course without an impossibly large expenditure of energy. Fortunately, we are not facing a huge or imminent threat from any such thing; it seems to have been 65 million years since the last such event of any consequence.

Hmm well when a comet or asteroid comes to hit the Earth, we'll need something that is effective, not necessarily creative and changing its course is by far the safest and most effective way I have heard of.

We would have to create a giant shield around the planet that the asteroid could not penetrate. We would have to be able to be put it up quickly in the event an asteroid was coming, then take it back down after the danger period.
That's all I can think of based on your criteria of not being able to destroy or change the asteroid.

Apophis is approximately 350 meters long, not 2,000. besides, to ascertain that it to strike the Earth on April 13, 2036, Apophis has to bypass by a area of area some six hundred meters extensive on April 13, 2029. the probabilities of this happening are very narrow, yet not impossible. If it does strike, it extremely is going to be the deadliest organic disaster throughout recorded historic previous, yet we've time to the two regulate that's orbit or a minimum of practice for the worst. it won't exterminate us off the face of the Earth, extremely that's going to reason finished destruction regionally or regionally consistent with the place it strikes, if it strikes in any respect. whether that's shown to be on an collision direction with Earth, we've time to income the asteroid and take suited action. A 2,000 meter long asteroid on the different hand can wipe the human race out for stable, notably if it hits the sea. it's going to make a brilliant crater in spite of the place it strikes by way of fact at 50,000 mph the asteroid will sweep even numerous miles of sea water aside and plow into the sea floor. The ensuing mega-tsunamis, earthquakes, nuclear iciness and white warm particles falling around the international will devastate the enviroment on a scale which will exceed a international nuclear conflict many cases over. If we stumbled on one among those on an direction which will bring about an impact interior a 365 days or maybe twenty years, I doubt we are able to do something to resign it. we could be blindsided by using a 2,000 meter long asteroid at any time, that's why professional astronomers via amateurs are doing their suited to maintain close look ahead to those bringers of dying and music their strikes. the main deadly gadgets are the Aten classification asteroids and comets. the two can come our way out of the glare of the sunlight, they are confusing to ascertain and their orbits are notably volatile and confusing to music over the years. you have some defective counsel, by way of fact whether Apophis IS probably dangerous, an impact with Earth isn't coming near near. it extremely is of project, make no mistake approximately it. whether that's not practically as risky by way of fact those that are obtainable undetected and on unknown trajectories, one among which that ought to hold one to Earth with little or no warning.

Have everyone on the planet fly to one country and then simultaneously jump to knock the planet over a few feet to dodge the projectile.
Either that or dig a hole throught he planet for the asteroid to fly through, and then fill it up again.

Why is this in the jokes and riddles section?
There are many plans each year to prevent such disaster.
One involves flying to the asteroid or comet and putting a rocket engine on it. deflecting it every so slightly many many miles away would make it miss earth.

This is easy. Give the planet to the Martians. Then it will not be our planet and therefore cannot hit "our" planet
