Yes, but isn't that the way it's supposed to work?

Not necessarily!
A favor is not owed; it's a gift you give because you are in a position to assist another person who has a need.
There are times when two people may come to an agreement about it though, and decide to repay later on. That changes the entire matter to a loan or a barter as Firehorse said.
I give all of the time and I get too, without asking. It works out.

A gift is a gift (favor).
But if you asked (with intentions or a verbal agreement) to pay it back, then its not a gift (favor), its a debt.
Once it leaves your hand or is put in your hand, just be thankful.
Don't feel intimidated when you receive.
Be humble when you give.
Just passing on kindness or a good gesture to anyone should be a part of ones day.

It all depends on the extent of the favor and whether or not we have defined terms as to when and how I pay back the favor. Otherwise a favor is just that, not a loan, not barter system related. Unless previously stated of course.

Favour is something a person does without thoughts of needing a pay back!
Now if it needs re-pay that means its a deal of doing something in return of something else is not a favour at all

No, I don't feel obligated at all.
If someone asks me for a favour I say yes or no depending if I can do it or not. Not because I feel I owe them.

I don't know how old you are,but in case you didn't notice; the real world is run on a favor. You do something for someone and they in turn will do something for you.

Yes,even when the person tells me that I don't have to. You never know if later on down the road they'll throw that favor in your face.

Yes. There is this older woman that I use to work with and we quit the same job. She made me three aprons, made me a button with a photo of my dogs, bought me lunch a couple of times and here recently bought my husband something. She will receive a nice Christmas gift from us though.

It all depends on the favor. I also believe in the pay it forward system.
