Women objectify themselves in general it is unfortunate. The media puts women in certain categories and most women tend to allow themselves to follow the lead of what is popular. It would be a great day if most women could stand up and say I am not an object for anyone's amusement entertainment or viewing pleasure I am a person of strong charater and will be myself.

And do you think porn also plays a role, as far as the media? This is for a class assignment.

oh yes.. porn is an extreme case of Objectifying oneself, in order for money, as well as to feel "beautiful" and "attractive" to the opposite sex. the epitome of being seen as a Piece of Meat, no brains, just beauty all on display for All to see!

i think part of is that men will pay SO MUCH MONEY, and so that is why there are women who take advantage of that...

You make a good point and women seem to be the most affected by what society, the media, marketing, etc have deemed the woman every other woman should aspire to be. I do not think it is a case of making women an object for amusement as much as it is creating a perception of what woman should be that is unrealistic and in some cases unhealthy. Women have the ability to fight this by not falling in to the trap of trying to fit this ideal. If women would just be themselves and ignore the hype it would eventually change but as long as women try to become this "perfect women" it will continue. The Porn Industry is not really a major contributor to this problem because the exposure that the Porn Industry is much smaller than that of mainstream media.

Here's who I see things. I am a more ... hmmmm ... mature woman. It seems that the role models we see in the media for young women ... the Paris Hiltons and Britanny Spears of the world ... have indeed objectified themselves. I heard a news report about too much skin on capitol hill. Interns and such working there wearing hugely inappropriate (revealing) clothing to work. IMHO, these women are slowly doing away with everything their mothers and grandmothers have tried to accomplish. And this is happening just when I though that finally it was ok to look like a woman (meaning not manning down our clothing) and yet be perceived as intelligent and capable.

I think that our world is based on sex sells & women are making that money. Do I agree with it ? No! I see myself as being more than just my body. I have a heart & a soul that is strong & full of love.
