Sounds like a typical description for an ACL tear (the anterior crucial ligament). The "pop" is typical. And it happens in this soccer situation all the time.
The softball size is the swelling and the start of the inflammation.
So - very likely - yeah - you tore it. So - for the ACL tear there is no way around a surgery if you want to get back into sports. And therefore you need to see a doc, they will take an MRI, very likely confirm and send you up to surgery.
So right now - put ice on it (a bag of frozen peas is best, you can refreeze), take some Advil or other over the counter anti inflammatory medicine and see the doc a.s.a.p.

Without X-rays/MRI's it's impossible to predict the damage. From the description of how your injury occurred, it could be the AC ligament. However, if you elevate your leg and ice it 15 minutes every hour, the swelling should reduce.

I truthfully have had knee issues on the grounds that 1987. First, a torn ACL and then a cartilage/menicus tear. i ultimately had to have surgical operation for the two injuries. i could recommend which you pass to an orthopedic scientific expert and get his/her advice, and likewise have an MRI carried out on your knee. frequently the torn cartilage must be bumped off and smoothed out. Your intense workout could be doing greater injury than sturdy, so additionally ask your wide-unfold practitioner how plenty and what style of workouts you are going to be doing. a lot of human beings pass to a experienced actual therapist after surgical operation. Squatting is probably going one in all the worst issues you're able to do on your knees.

I would have to agree with everyone else...get it checked out. It is hard to say with any degree of certainty whether or not you hurt something, but a loud pop and swelling later on...it should be safe to say that damage was done. Please go to the doctor and see to what extent. It could be nothing to worry about, but it could also require some serious attention, so go get it checked out. Fill us in later on what the doctor says too. Good luck.
