I've had boils before and they are just pus filled mounds on your body that can be lanced by an MD. An abscess is more like an infection that should also be treated by an MD with some type of antibiotic. But don't depend on my answer, seek medical help

I think a boil usually have a hard center core, while an abscess is just pus filled.
