hello, i just became permanent resident on 06/26/06, i got my residence by getting married to an american citizen and i would like to know how long does it take for me to become a citizen. When could i start applying to become a citizen. Also, is it possible for me to start the paperwork for my mother residence?

You can file your N-400 application for naturalization 2 years and 9 months from the day you became a permanent resident. The amount of time it takes for your application to get approved depends on a few different things. If you're from any country in the middle east, i.e. Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc., don't expect to be approved in a timely manner. No offense to you if you're from one of those countries, but the background checks and name checks tend to take quite a while for applicants from that area. Also for applicants from China, Russia, etc. Not saying you're not a good person, but there are a lot of bad people from those areas, and our government is trying not to let any of those bad people in. If you're from any country that is a good ally to the U.S., your name checks shouldn't take too long. You may be approved within as little as 6 months from the time you file your N-400. I'm not sure if you can file for your mother yet. You may have to wait until you become naturalized to start the paperwork for your mom. Good luck, and thank you for immigrating here the legal way! I hope all goes well for you!

I believe you have to wait three years before you can become a citizen however the road to citizenship is much shorter than that of the road to residency. A little advice, you may wanna add that you actually love your spouse or your setting yourself up for some "not so nice" comments!! lol.

If you are still married after 3 years you can apply for citizenship then. If you're not married then you have to wait 5 years. Either way it will take several months to have your application processed.
I can't answer you question about your mother.

it is funny seeing stuff lik this over and over again, "i just got married, how long do i need to wait now"

well when you ask questions like that, you open yourself up to comments like mine, did you just get married for that citizenship? it seems that way seeing that now you want to apply for your mother as well, you see it is not that simple, first you will need to be a citizen before applying for anyone else, second you will need to have 100% proof you can support them as well as yourself in case of something happening where they can not work, and thirdly, you will need to follow all other protocalls of the laws in the states.
