had similar attacks and protect notices also contacted norton support and suggested that these were spurious attacks sent out by norton . i was quite surprised that my contact did not deny or confirm this but gave me a polite no comment, draw your own conclusions

I bought Norton with my new PC in September 05 and it's not due for renewal until end-December 06. I got a flurry of these "an attempt was made to attack your computer" messages in April, then nothing, then a couple more of them a week ago, but nothing since. It's human nature to think we see a pattern or a cause-and-effect in random phenomena, and it's inevitable with anything random that it sometimes fits.

I've been using nortons for yrs & have never experienced this. If you think that nortons is out to get you by nefarious means; uninstall it & get a free virus solution like avg or avast.

Ahh...the conspiracy theory again.
I am assured by http://www.theregister.co.uk/ that Symantec is upto no such thing. They have inspected Symantec's Anti-Virus research centre and claim that thats the only product that Symantec Engineers in the facility make.
Anyways, if you dont like paying Symantec, switch to AVG Free at http://free.grisoft.com/

Maybe you are using a Peer to Peer software, like Emule or Kazaa, security software take connection attempts as attacks.

So that is what I thought was behind those popups that would only want you to buy their product. Cleaver huh? Any solutions
