Ok, I am on a college campus, and it seems everywhere I go there are Paris Hilton wannabees. do you think the media pushes women to feel this way?

These girls have low self esteem and need to feel validated by the attention they recieve from others. Yes the media can place negative social pressures on people as well. It seems our culture values the material more than anything else. The issue is the low self - esteem. If women could learn to love themselves they would be less likely to fall into negative societal pressures. They would not care what other people thought about them, no validation would be necessary.

Women objectify themselves in general it is unfortunate. The media puts women in certain categories and most women tend to allow themselves to follow the lead of what is popular. It would be a great day if most women could stand up and say I am not an object for anyone's amusement entertainment or viewing pleasure I am a person of strong charater and will be myself.

Peer pressure - don't want to be different, gotta do what the rest of the crowd is doing so you don't look like an "idiot". Overall I think it's a pathetic notion. I hate fashion and definitely do not follow the crowd. I have my own style and I stick to it. Of course I stand out all the time but then it hasn't stopped the guys from asking me out now has it?

My guess would be for the same reason women objectify themselves anywhere else. Is there something about college campuses that make them much more susceptible to the behavior than anywhere else?

More info, please!

I think, it's quite natural to idolize wit a celebrity. every where you will find this tendency, to look and act like a famous person.
but too much of it becomes comic, and a cause for fun, mostly, they become carctures, and lose their own identity in this sad copying and aping.
