They don't need it and it can upset their stomach. Water is best for adult cats.

An person cat would not choose milk and it actual has little or no to grant them interior the way of food. Cream may be a greater effectual option as cats could make the main of the fat in that and it must be helpful. I even have one cat that likes to lap the milk from the backside of my cereal bowl. and that i don't serve my 5 cats milk in a bowl for ingesting. I clean bowls on a daily basis and use clean water filtered by using a Brita water clear out.

I have one cat that likes to lap the milk from the bottom of my cereal bowl. And I do not serve my five cats milk in a bowl for drinking. I clean bowls daily and use fresh water filtered through a Brita water filter.

Hi Stephy...Contrary to the popular thought that cats love milk—and most do like the taste—it typically is not good for them. For many cats, it causes digestive upset and sometimes diarrhea. This is because most cats can't digest milk properly because it contains lactose (milk sugar), which may cause loose bowels.
There are specially formulated kitty “milks” available at pet stores called Cat Sip that do not have cow's milk in them or that are treated with the enzyme lactase to break down the milk sugar and make it digestable. Please consider looking for one of these next time you would like to give kitty milk.
Here's an excerpt from the Pet Professor about milk for cats: http://www.thepetprofessor.com/articles/article.aspx?id=326
We see cats drinking milk in commercials, old tv shows and the like. But the fact of the matter is that most cats are lactose intolerant. That means that they can't digest the sugars in milk. Milk also has very little to no nutritional value for cats. The fact of the matter is that a cat fed only on milk will die of malnutrition. However most cats LOVE the taste of milk, so what do you do?
As a staple cats should always have fresh, cool water available to them. As long as your cat isn't lactose intolerant, milk is not bad for cats if it is given as an occasional treat (think of it as kitty junk food). The first step is to determine if your cat likes milk. If your cat does like milk then determine is he or she is lactose intolerant. If your cat is lactose intolerant then he/she will have a little diarrhea and a little stomach problems for a few days after drinking the milk. In this case you will definitely want to give your kitty a milk substitute created for cats. Such a substitute is created to have some nutritional value for cats while not upsetting their stomachs as real milk can. A good substitute is Cat's Sip, it can be found in your local pet store or grocery store. Many veterinarians suggest that if your cat does like milk and even if he/she isn't lactose intolerant that you should get him/her used to a milk substitute anyhow as it is better for the cat.

The Humane Societies and vet's do not recommend this.
My sister has given her cat at age 10 months and she now is 8 years, evaporated milk mixed with water and she seems quite well.
They really shouldn't have it.

I have heard cats are lactose intolerant. I usually just give them a tiny saucer of it if they have done something especially good. However, I have seen a lactose free milk substitute for cats at places like Petsmart.

A little every now and then won't hurt, but they shouldn't have it all the time. It could make them very sick. The only milk my cat gets is the milk left in my cereal bowls....... :)

You would be doing them a favor by NOT giving a cat milk! They cannot digest dairy products.
