Go to the Clark Howard website, there's probably information there. I think there are 4 credit reporting agencies. You can request a free credit report annually from each agency so every quarter you can get a credit report from a different agency.

You can go to the 3 different reporting agencies and request a copy, however you only get 1 per company per year. The online versions are usually only free for the first month, and then you have to pay. However it is a very wise investment. YOu can also check with your bank or credit card company. They offer plans to their customers to monitor your credit for like $5 a month.

I could be wrong but I though that the only true way to get a free credit report was IF you have been denied an account from a company based on your credit report that they saw. They are supposed to give you a letter & that is what you have to provide the crdit reporting company in order to get it free. Any time you are denied you can get a report to see why.

You are entitled to one free report each year from each of the 3 credit report companies. So you can get a free one every 4 months if you request one from a different company each time.
