u only have 1 mom & 1 dad I am a parent as well and remarried never could I ever fathom the idea of such a thing. if steppys can handle the fact that out of respect and love for your biological parents you don't need to call them anything , talk to your real parents see what they think ____ on the other hand parents don't have to be the ones that gave birth to u they are the ones who loved u and cared for u all your life ,,,,

I say if the kid wants to call the step parents mom and dad that should be looked at as a good thing. It indicates a good relationship between the stepparent and the child. It takes nothing away from the "real" parent but adds much to the childs life.I had a step parent as a child and she was great ok not as great as my own mom but great just the same in a different way.

It depends on the situation. My real father died when I was a toddler , so I never really knew him. My mom got married again when I was about 11. I never called my step father dad because I never liked him. To me he acts like an @sshole,but if he makes my mom happy then fine. I'm 36 and I still don't call him dad, I call him by his first name. If he would have acted like a dad and been nice to me I probably would have called him dad. My brother is two years younger then me and he calls him dad. I guess it is different for every body and it's not always messed up. My grandma raised me,I call her mom and I also call my mother mom. Weird huh.

The kid may not have their parents. What if your real parent died? What if the child was raised by the stepparent from a very young age?
This is not messed up and the great thing about families is they decide what they want to do, not others

It should be left to the kids what they feel best calling them. I'm a step mom but never pushed my stepchildren to call me mom. Sometimes they call me mom sometimes they call me by my first name. And their mother is very much alive and in their lives.

I've spent the last 10 years calling my step-parents by their first names, and they haven't seemed to mind.
But that said my best mate calls his biological parents mum and dad as well as both his step-parents.
I'd leave it up to the kids.

I would hate it if my own kid called somebody else their MOM. Cuz that would be my child not theirs.
