If you can tell me why its existance is worth the deaths of hundreds of people that would be wonderful as well.

Also, please don't refuse to answer this question on the grounds that I might not have an open mind. No, I'm asking this question to enlighten myself... I wouldn't ask if I didn't want to know.

When people respect the land and know how to use it they should have it. When people abuse it and not respect the land they don't deserve to have it. The Bedouin did not respect the land. They are often called the "sons of the desert". A better name would be the "fathers of the desert". The present state of Israel occupies only a small percentage of the former province of Palestine. Most of what was Palestine is now the nation of Jordan. By the way our country was taken from many Indian tribes as was Canada and Mexico. And the Indians took land from other Indian tribes before them. The Aztecs took their land from earlier Indians. The same thing happened in Europe, Asia, Africa. Most countries started that way. The Japanese were people who arrived from the mainland of Asia and took the land away from the Ainu, a people who still exist in northern Japan mostly on reservations. Finally there has always been a Jewish presence in what is now Israel.

Well, from a Christian view, Israel is worth because they are actually one of the major players of history yet to be made. Biblically, they are Gods chosen people (I believe and honor this) and God did give that land to them (it is God's to give, not mans) and Israel will be the place where Christ will set up his earthly throne at his 2nd coming. Do you think that there wouldn't still be thousands of deaths (as there has already been) in getting rid of or making non existence of Israel? Why is it okay to slaughter the Israelites but not another group of people? Also, Israel has tried to live side by side in peace with their neighbors. They have even gone as far as to give some of the land away that God told them to keep, which is a sin against them. Most of the middle Eastern Countries call for the Israelites to be wipe off the map, not the Israelites calling for the others to be wipe off the map. They would help Palestine if Palestine wasn't so busy sending suicide bombers in. The Islamic nation has a deep HATE for Israel and Christians and Americans. THEY (ISLAM) will not bend and try to get along, not the other way around. They blatantly say this.

First off, Israel has always been punked by Arabs. The Jews history stretches back to Egypt when they were slaves. you may remember Moses and all. Before hand was Abraham. Abraham is said to be the father of Israel and from the Jews Jesus came. So the Jews and Christians have a heritage together. Jesus came to fulfill the old Law, The Torah, which is for the most part The Old Testament for us Christians. The problem is that Islam claims to stem from Abraham as well. But being that Christianity and Judaism stem from Joseph Issacc and Jacob, and Islam traces itself to Ishmael, The condemmed son in the Old Testament, the two have never gotten along. Back in that day is when those two tribes split, one east and one west, hince the Arabs in the East and Jews and Christians in the West. Muslims will Continue to hate Jews forever. Just look at the wackjob running Iran. He denies the Holocaust even existed. So hopefully my facts are right, and hope fully this helps.

The first inhabitants of Jerusalem were the Caananites who were under Egyptian rule. It is believed that the Caananites were Phoenicians,( most of the inhabitants of Lebanon have the Caananite gene today so by this reasoning Jerusalem would be part of Lebanon or Egypt), it is associated with the Prophet Noah (pbuh) in the Bible and was not associated with the Jew until the time of King David who built the 1st Jewish temple.
The "nation" of Israel only existed as a group of people, they were not an actual country. They co-existed in the country of Palestine for many years until they decided to kick the Palestinians out, because they wanted to be the rulers of that land. They also tried to steal land from Egypt. Then they began moving in Jews from all over the world. The inhabitants of Israel come from many countries, they are Jews from Poland, Germany, The USA and all over Europe. These people did not come from this area. Their only tie to this area is they share a common religion. This is why all of the surrounding Arab nations refuse to acknowledge their existence, if they hate the Jews it is only because that are stealing land from fellow Muslim countries and they refuse to allow Muslims to visit the mosque in Jerusalem, this is the only mosque outside of Saudi Arabia that was visited by the Prophet Muhammed (pbuh) and it is where he ascended into heaven. It is considered the 3rd most holy place in Islam ( after the mosques at Mecca where all Muslims are commanded to make a pilgrimage and the mosque in Madinah - the birthplace of the prophet)

First important to understand, Israel minds it's own business. They have a policy to attack when they are attacked. Nations surrounding it are the ones with the problems. They hate Jewish people. Israel is the only non-Muslim race on their borders. Also, they say not all, but many, Muslims believe in killing the infidel(Non-Muslim)so they harass the Jewish community terribly.Me, myself, believe God told us of this in Bible. But many don't consider the Bible, so others would see it as the Muslim thing. As far as Israel's existence, well that's just a stupid question. Annihilating a nation because of anything is ridiculous. All people should have the right to live in peace. Even racist people.(should be locked up in jail though)

OK, here you go.

Throughout Jewish history, wherever Jews were, they were periodically massacred (the word is "pogrom," and progroms happened constantly throughout Europe). At the end of the 19th century, some secular Jews thought that they might move to the Levant to establish a Jewish state. What was there at the time? Very close to nothing and nobody.

So the Zionists moved there. They brought vast economic and social progress, turned the desert into a garden, and carried liberal social ideals with them. Of course, the local Arab population swelled as well -- attracted by the economy. Then, when there were enough of them, their inveterate hatred of Jews made them decide it was time to start killing them. You know, goose-and-golden-egg type of situation.

The UN responded (the UN, please note) by establishing a Jewish state. There was going to be a Palestinian state as well, and Jerusalem was going to be a UN-administered international city, but guess what -- the Palestinians, and all the surrounding Arab states, declared war on Israel. They lost. Now Israel is there -- a tiny fraction of the size the UN mandate was originally going to make it be. And there is still a Palestinian state -- it's called Jordan.

Now there's one Jewish state and 20 Arab states whose people by and large want the Jews massacred (what else is new?). Plus the non-Arab Iranians, who are working hard to develop the technology to immolate Tel Aviv in a nuclear holocaust. The Jewish state -- where Palestinians hold office in the Knesset, BTW -- is a little island of tolerant, liberal, pluralist democracy in a sea of Arab despots.

The Arabs can't seem to bring themselves to deal with one Jewish state, one tiny little sliver of land. Why? As a friend of mine likes to say: "The great Jew-killing lie."

They are our friends, and they deserve our support, and there is no equivalence between their legitimate self-defense and the actions of Arab terrorists. These terrorists are the ones who derailed the best hopes of the peace process. Why? They don't want peace with Israel. They want to eradicate Israel.

That good enough?

If the arab countries surrounding Israel put down their weapons and recognized Israel's right to exist- then peace would break out in the middle ease.

If Israel put down their weapons, they would be overrun in a brutal slaughter no wholly unlike Rawanda.

Jews were criticized for not fighting back for their survival during WWII when 6 million of them were loaded into trains and sent to gas chambers. Well- now they're living on land which they mostly *purchased* from the locals in the late 1800's and early 1900's. The 'occupied territories' were won in 1967. They'd give 97% of those territories back in a heartbeat if it would bring peace (yes, it's been offered a few times).

Collectivist mentality dictates that the individual can and will be sacrificed for the collective. All wars are some form of eliminating the individual mind. Or one collectivist organization against another, with no regard what so ever for it's parts.
The only healthy group of humans, is the group that nurtures it's individual parts. Values the life of the individual over the life of the group.

- Many often confuse Israel with being land, but it is actually a nation of people. Biblicaly there is only the nation of Israel, not the state of Israel.

It goes back to being God's chosen land. Jesus will rule from here after the 7 year tribulation period (for 1000 years).

Gen. 12:3 He who blesses Israel will be blessed. He who curses Israel will be cursed.
