i read in a book where an LDS leader preached that this was nto so. that mary and "god" made this baby together. i do have the speech and the leader who spoke this information.. i would glady give it to you if you ask. now, if this is taught by the LDS leaders, do the mormons actually belive it? most i have asked say no they do not. so then, how do you know everything else they teach is correct? do all mormons pick and choose what they believe? and yes some christians do as well, some christiasn will say well i dont follow that part in the bible, and that is wrong. the bible is the way of life and you belive it all or you dont. i do not condone christians saying that. but the same is tru with LDS, why dont you believe everything you are taught? is it because some things make sense and my "go along" with the bible and some things are just to insane to believe?

Who are you going to believe Man or God?

I'm not a Mormon, but this is what I found from a book used by the Mormons to teach others:

"Our Lord is the only mortal person ever born to a virgin, because he is the only person who ever had an immortal Father. Mary, his mother, "was carried away in the Spirit" (1 Ne. 11:1321), was "overshadowed" by the Holy Ghost, and the conception which took place "by the power of the Holy Ghost" resulted in the bringing forth of the literal and personal Son of God the Father. (Alma 7:10; 2 Ne. 17:14; Isa. 7:14; Matt. 1:1825; Luke 1:2638.) Christ is not the Son of the Holy Ghost, but of the Father. (Doctrines of Salvation, vol. 1, pp. 1820.) Modernistic teachings denying the virgin birth are utterly and completely apostate and false." (Mormon Doctrine, Bruce R. McConkie, p. 822, 1979)

Peace.

I have been Mormon my whole life (26 years) and have never been taught that, ever. We believe Mary was a virgin and that the spirit of the Lord "overshadowed" her and she conceived. Now, I take that to mean the Lord put Christ's spirit in her womb and that was that. Not that God the Father had actual sex with her, I do not believe that and have never been taught that.
I would like to see the talk to are referring to...

I am not sure which LDS leader you are talking about but would be interested in reading it. I have a feeling you might be talking about the book entitiled Mormon Doctrine. Which I think you will find though written by a Mormon leader was not sanctioned by The church as doctrine. There fore it is opinion. You find that the Church supports very few individual publications involving personal theorys of the church. The only I can think of would be Jesus the Christ which was written by James E Talmage. He is very clear to diferentiate between doctrine and opinion. There is a difference.

There are mormons that pic and choose what to believe just like any other religion. But this is not a situation that is sanctioned by the church either.

Here is a quote from a former Prophet of our church. This is church doctrine.

""I shall take my text from the account in 1 Nephi 11. The visions here recorded were seen about 600 years before our Lord’s birth into mortality. Lehi had received marvelous manifestations pertaining to our Lord’s birth and ministry, and had recited them to his son Nephi, who then in the power and majesty of the faith he had developed, went forth and prevailed upon the Lord to show him the same visions. These included the following:

“I beheld the city of Nazareth; and in the city of Nazareth I beheld a virgin, and she was exceedingly fair and white.

“And it came to pass that I saw the heavens open; and an angel came down and stood before me; and he said unto me: Nephi, what beholdest thou?

“And I said unto him: A virgin, most beautiful and fair above all other virgins.

“And he said unto me: Knowest thou the condescension of God?” (1 Ne. 11:13–16; italics added).

Now Nephi, great and inspired as he was, had but a partial comprehension at that time on this point. And so he said:

“And I said unto him: I know that he loveth his children; nevertheless, I do not know the meaning of all things” (1 Ne. 11:17).

Well, what is the condescension of God as it pertains to our Lord’s birth and coming into mortality?

The next words in the account say:

“And he said unto me: Behold, the virgin whom thou seest is the mother of the Son of God, after the manner of the flesh.

“And it came to pass that I beheld that she was carried away in the Spirit; and after she had been carried away in the Spirit for the space of a time the angel spake unto me, saying: Look!

“And I looked and beheld the virgin again, bearing a child in her arms.""

only those false teachings that other say we teach that we do not follow.

We follow the doctrine that is in our scriptures, any leader who preaches not according to the doctrine, will be regarded as not in accordance with the spirit and will not be taken as official doctrine of our church.

and to your question, No, we do not believe what you said about Jesus not conceived of vigin birth.

I heard a rumor that a huge rationalization why blacks weren't given the priesthood till 1978 became by way of fact there had to be a unanimous protecting by using all of the contributors of the Quorum of the Twelve, and McConkie became a huge carry out. It took them a on an identical time as to cajole him that God became asserting "provide them the priesthood". "Mormon Doctrine" became not an professional church instruction manual, yet McConkie's very own paintings. He did get many stuff precise in it, that's why it became quoted many cases. yet, sure, he did have some issues that had to be corrected. He knew that numerous previous prophets ans apostles had made what right this moment sound like racist comments. We do have faith in line upon line, concept on concept, and that residing prophets can receive revelation which will properly suited previous errors or make clean confusing issues, or simplify the way we do issues, or alter issues by way of fact the church grows. What worked for a church of 13,000 would not paintings for a church of 13,000,000. >whilst he became advised that his very own teachings have been incorrect?< the keyword in that's "his very own teachings". They have been his, not unavoidably the church's. maximum standard government have pronounced "do not take myword for it, do not save on with me blindly, take it up with God, examine the scriptures like the Bereans, and discover out for your self."

.They are a bunch of nut jobs here is what they say:

1. The first spirit to be born in heaven was Jesus, (Mormon Doctrine, page 129.)
2. Jesus and Satan are spirit brothers and we were all born as siblings in heaven to them both, (Mormon Doctrine, p. 163; Gospel Through the Ages, p. 15.)
3. Jesus' sacrifice was not able to cleanse us from all our sins, (murder and repeated adultery are exceptions), (Journal of Discourses, Vol. 3, p. 247, 1856.)
4. "Therefore we know that both the Father and the Son are in form and stature perfect men; each of them possesses a tangible body . . . of flesh and bones." (Articles of Faith, by James Talmage, p. 38).
5. "The birth of the Saviour was as natural as are the births of our children; it was the result of natural action. He partook of flesh and blood - was begotten of his Father, as we were of our fathers." (Journal of Discourses, Vol. 8: p. 115).
6. "Christ was begotten by an Immortal Father in the same way that mortal men are begotten by mortal fathers" (Mormon Doctrine," by Bruce McConkie, p. 547).
7. "Christ Not Begotten of Holy Ghost ...Christ was begotten of God. He was not born without the aid of Man, and that Man was God!" (Doctrines of Salvation, Joseph Fielding Smith, 1954, 1:18).
8. "Elohim is literally the Father of the spirit of Jesus Christ and also of the body in which Jesus Christ performed His mission in the flesh ..." (First Presidency and Council of the Twelve, 1916, God the Father, compiled by Gordon Allred, pg. 150).

Is that implying that Mary had sex with god to get pregnant? While I do agree that if she got pregnant she almost certainly had sex, it was far more likely to have been with Joseph than god.
