My best friend is a girl (i'm a guy) and we get on great, but some days in school we dont even talk. We are both 15 if that matters, and there have always been rumors flying around about us. Today for example, I only talked to her during the last 3 classes, before that we barely said hi. Also, the thing is that when we do talk she seems to be more honest with me, like if I ask her how she is she will tell me if she isnt feeling great (whereas with most other people she will just say fine or something). So, why do we not talk at all so often? With other girls whom arent as good friends with me, I can joke and mess with whenever I see them, but with her it is only if an actual conversational chance comes up, like if we are standing in the same group. (We don't just shout out hi to each other from accross the room--which I would with other people) Despite this she is my best friend, but I am just wondering why it is awkward sometimes.

I had this same kinda thing when i was in school. My best friend was a guy and when he would see me, he would not even talk to me. But when we got home, he would come over and hang out and stuff like that. It didn't help that he was 2 years old then me. She would rather make the time to sit and chat with you then to have a 2 second conversation that is going nowhere. Also she may be shy about talking to you when there are alot of people around. She may rather want to be alone and not have the conversation overheard.

ask her out. You are obviously attracted to her, even if you can't figure out exactly why. If you go out with her, you'll get to know her MUCH better and you can talk on the phone, see each other outside of school, etc...
You mentioned rumors. I'm guessing from your description of events that the rumors say you're going out. If you DO go out with her, then what are they going to say now? It stops nasty whispering and things, because it's like a slap in the face. Spreading true rumors isn't as much fun as lies and falsehoods.

Maybe she is starting to have feelings for you other than just friends or there is someone else she is into a maybe doesn't want to tell you. but i'm just guessing. the best way to find out is to ask her since you two get along so well i don't think it will be a problem.

Why don't you shout hi from across the room to her. Are there more feelings there than "just" friends? Is is you or her that is stopping the joking?

I have no idea i'm baffled myself. The next time that you guys are alone you should bring up a conversation about feelings and when she gets into it ask how she feels about you. And tell where you'd like to go with your relationship with her.

Hi Honey, Maybe she likes you for more than just a friend, and it is making her a bit distant because she doesn't know how to handle the feelings that she is having for you. She is trying to be "natural", but has deeper thoughts for you. Maybe???

because after someone of the opposite sex has been your best friemd for multiple years, all those movie scenes go into peoples head. your not talking to her because your subconciously afraid that if you say the wrong thing then yuor buetiful friendship will be over

It would appear that this girl is very special and so must be treated that way, and you do what you need to do . never mind what others say they are not the couples police, Just smile and nod when they say anything, keep them and not your girl guessing, Her you keep your heart open. best of luck

It sounds to me like she's a very reserved person. She probably keeps to herself and doesn't expose too much, if any, of her personal business to anyone. You should try to build up her confidence and trust in you and she will start opening up to you.

it is because you are sweet on each other, don't worry, the time will come when it all just clicks. Till then just keep doing what you have been doing, she is your best friend, what more do you want?
