I have been diganosed with a personality disorder and depression. It impairs my social life and my self image. I have constant thoughts of paranoia and suicide. I want some sort of help. I can't afford health insurance and most I have talked to don't cover mental illness. I am not sure what to do. Everyone around me either doesn't care or does not know what to do.

I have problems talking to people or communicating on a normal level. I feel confused and very anxious. It makes going out or going to work nearly impossible. The only thing I have done okay with is college. I want to just focus on that. How can I do it.

I was under observation for a week or two then I was removed by my parents against their will. Also I was discharged from basic training for my mental disorder.

There is a slight possibility they you may qualify for disability through the Social Security Admin. You have to first, go there and fill out an initial application to start the lengthy process. Then, providing that you have sought care in the past and present for your condition through dr.'s and psych's., and the feel that your illness prohibits you from performing a job on a daily basis, then your case will be reviewed. Let me tell you, try and remain as patient as possible, because 9 times out of 10 a claim will be rejected. Persistency pays off!

As for your question about SS. It takes forever to get it started. You have to have a doctors diagnosis and prove the problem is keeping you from being able to work. I suffer from clinical depression and an assortment of other things. I was turned down the first time I applied so didn't follow up. I later found out everybody is turned down the first time. Then you have to file again. Mine has been going on for over 3 years and I finally hired an attorney that takes his money out of what you get back or either gets nothing. I am now waiting for a court hearing as the SS office could not make a decision. The attorneys will go to court with you and help you. If you win, they will have to pay you all the back money since you first applied. Your best bet is to continue going to doctors complaining when you can afford it. That way you are establishing a record. If you are capable of going to college that could hurt you. If you go to a therapist they will put you on an antidepressant that will really make a difference in your life. I take Cymbalta and it works good for me. I have tried several others and most of them didn't work. DO NOT TAKE PAXIL. I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE PAXIL. Paxil worked great for me but when it came time I wanted to get off the antidepressants, the withdrawals were a nightmare. I had been on antidepressants for years and was tired of it and just wanted to get off of them. But I became a monster until I ask the doctor to put me on something else.

I would go to the SS office and file anyway. You might get lucky. But it is really important that you get on medication right away. Having thoughts of suicide is something you must address immediately. Some hospitals will take you as an indigent and it won't cost you anything. Try some of the social services your community offers. Maybe you can qualify to get medical help. Good Luck

If you are over 18, your parents can not remove you from the hospital. They have no legal control over you.

What you need to do is go to your local social services office and apply. Bring a pen and a book to write on while filling out the forms and read while waiting in line. Plan on being there most of the day. You can apply for ssi and ssd at the same time. Also, apply for medicaid, food stamps, housing assistance... You can apply for most of these at the same place.

IM me and I can help you make a plan for applying to these services.

Social Security is a bit of a battle to get and a lot of hoops need to be jumped through...if you have a good doctor who is willing to go on that journey with you...it may well be the best way to deal with things and get yourself cared for. Unfortunately, people don't pay attention to those who have such illnesses unless something serious happens. Very unfair to say the least.

Probably best thing to do is to obtain the proper forms from SSA and see if your doctor will help you with it. They will require that a bunch of medical documentation be provided to them and preferrably from a doctor who has been seeing you for over a year or more.

It's unfortunate that you have no one around you to assist you with your case...try to do what you can and if you are in a situation where you require legal assistance but can't afford it...check into something like Legal Aid...you have to first get your doctor on board with all this. Perhaps he's not willing to get you filed for SSA because of your age...he'd prefer that you try to work through things instead and just go on with life. That in itself is sometimes a further problem for how you are feeling.

I've been in a similar situation except where I'm from health care wasn't a problem...but jumping hoops is necessary because this is how they weed out the real from the bogus cases. The bogus cases usually give up early or they somehow get where they want to be with little to no resistance (not fair), while the real cases will usually have to work long and hard to prove their case.

Be prepared to fight...the fight is worth it though because it's your life you are fighting for...you ARE worth it and it isn't fair for others to simply ignore you. Hang in there...talk to your doctor...get him on board and fight for help...meanwhile check out the following site where you might get some info to assist you:

http://groups.msn.com/SocialSecurityDisabilityCoalition Support group for SSA inquiries etc...other disabled/mentally and physically --- members here. You might find out some info about how to go about doing what you need to from this site

Good luck!

Yes you can go on SS or SSI. Go to the Social Security office and apply. They will send you to a doctor or two. They will ask questions. You may need family members, friends, or associates to answer questions as well. The more the better. The more detailed the better. If they deny you at first don't give up. Appeal it. Appeal it appeal it.
E-mail me for details.

Contact a social worker. A good one knows all the in's and outs and would be able to help you. Also you can do a web search for disability aid in your state.

God is the hope of your well-being. Pray and go to church to learn God's way of life.

In the Beginning God created heavens and earth.
God gives you air to breathe and sunshine to enjoy.
God gives you water to drink and food to eat.
God gives you a wonderful body and sound mind, to live.
God loves you, and you are precious to Him.
Son of God died on the Cross to save us from condemnation.
Jesus’ love is boundless and everlasting.
We have the hope of Heaven through Jesus.
Life therefore has fantastic and glorious future!
(Digestion of above can even prevent depression and suicide attempt.)
