If you have undetectable virus for 6 months following the end of your treatment, then you are a sustained virological responder = cured. The chances of it coming back are essentially none. You can contract Hepatitis C again though if you engage in any activities that would put you at risk (like injecting IV drugs.) Just remember that if you have your Hepatitis C antibody tested (which is usually the first screening test that most doctors do) it will ALWAYS remain positive. Your physician will need to be aware that they need to check the Hepatitis C viral RNA to determine if this is positive.

It depends om what your genotype is. Genotype 1 is more resistant to the treatment, thus requiring a longer treatment period. I assume you mean you did treatment for 48 weeks, not months. Since you have been clear for 2 years, your chances of relapsing are very slim; less than 2%. Congratulations! Of course, that is barring any re-exposure to the virus. If there is no detectable virus, then you can't transmit it to someone else. However, it is always smart to practice universal precautions no matter what. Congrats again to you.

As far as I am aware, there is no cure for hep c. I think that the virus always stays in your body, even though the levels may be undetectable. I am glad that you have found a treatment that has worked so well for you, though. Keep taking care of yourself and the next time you see your doctor, ask him/her that same question. I am pretty sure I'm right, but I am by no means an expert. Good luck!

You can make to help slow the progression of hepatitis C and keep you healthier:
Be careful with your medicines.
Avoid alcohol.
Don’t share. Since the virus can be transmitted through blood, don’t donate blood or share razors.
