It is going to be very hard if you don't speak their language and you want to be their friend...

I think Mandela said (or at least I think it is him who said that) that if you speak to someone in a language he understands, it will go to his head, but if you speak to him in his own language, it will go to his heart.

Do not say you are suck with languages. It is such a different experience to learn a language by talking with foreign people than by sitting in a classroom!

Go for it, and they will like you even more for that :o)

In Israel sometimes people get married one not knowing Hebrew the other not knowing English and it isn't confusing and they say that they love each other, but when they understand each other they normally separate, and get divorced.
Learn his language and find out who he/she really is when you learn a new word try to use it while talking to him/her and you will be good at it in no time.
