It's ilegal,because it have copyright for microsoft but I have a Windows XP Professional 2004 SP 1 which is breaked:

I hope it does for you,write it on a paper and use it within installing winXP.

If it is not a pirate then it is on the back of the insert with the disc.
If you had it and didn't make a record of it then MS can help you.
If it is a pirate you can still activate it but not register it.
Good idea to have a legal copy because you can get the updates for it.
