ok here is what is going to happen to you because i've been there. now keep in mind i went to paris island but the same thing happens in san diego also. we arrived at the recieving barracks in the middle of the night a D.I. boards the bus and all hell breaks loose. you fill out your paper work and get issued your uniforms{cammies only alphas and bravos come later down the line} you are issued a little book and told to read it. you might have to wait around the recieving barracks for a few days maybe up to a week because they are waiting for enough men to assemble a series which consist of 4 platoons. while there you will not do any training just reading and waiting. basically it's just the hurry up and wait which you will learn very fast is how the corp works. after a few days you'll be told to stow your gear in your sea bag and everyone will get on these transports they call cattle cars which will take you to the battalion that you will be training at this is when the fun really starts. hollidays? you'll have none. they might make you march into the shower and throw foot powder in the air. they will call ths a white christmas. lol. your training will be the same as if you arrived in the middle of the year. i know i'm a bit long winded but there is your answer. if you have anymore feel free to email. enjoy your time there it only seams like it is forever.

You begin the process right when you get there. For the first week it is called receiving, once that week is over your DIs come and get you and you start training. You won't get time off for the holidays. Think about it this way, if they postpone training for the holidays, you are staying longer. What about the Marines that should be going home for boot leave around the holidays? They don't get held over because of the holiday, they keep training, and moving right along. Even if they postpone it a few days it isn't really going to matter you aren't going to open presents and sing carols. They will just have more time to mess with you. Good luck.
Also we don't have to polish boots anymore!

I wasn't in Boot around Christmas time, but yes you will start training right away. The only consolation is that you may just get a (short) phone call on Christmas. Good luck and stay motivated. And remember that no matter how hard it seems, it's all worth it when you finally get to call yourself a Marine.

If you ship out on the 19th then you will start training either that day or the next morning. Rule of thumb, you will start training the
very second you arrive at boot camp. Ex-marine, Lima Co., 3rd
battalion, 5th marines, 1st. Mar Div. Good luck, you'll need it.

christmas is the same as a week after thanksgiving, a training day! you may get an extra hour of free time and the marine corps calls "free time" time for u to study your knowledge, shine your boots, and get ready for inspections.
