I am in the army and i have missed 3 anniversaries since i have been in.

A great gift would be something symbolic of your 5 years together. Since the traditional gift for a 5 year anniversary is wood, I got my wife a beautiful piece of jewelry from Liel and Lentz. If you have kids...Hire a sitter or get the grandparents to take them for a full weekend. Make reservations to a nice hotel with a balcony, plan the first evenings dinner, take her to a nice show or dancing then go for a nice walk together, just getting to know each other again. Go back to the hotel (where you have ordered wine or champaign shilled and waiting) light some candles, take her out on the balcony for your drink, take her in your arms and tell her what you feel in your heart, and how you hated that you have missed being together three other times.
Then give her a necklace with a floating heart. Nothing expensive jsut something to help her remember your weekend for the times you have to miss each other while you are away from the other.
The following morning get up before her, order her breakfast, serve her in bed and let her choose what to do that day. No matter how girlie it is. Remember you are making this her gift from you.
I can almost guarantee you will have melted away the missed times and planted in her heart how much she means to you and how much you love her. Good luck, your a sweety for wanting to makeup for lost times!

Well realistically don't waste money on boring stuff or jewelry. If you have missed a few anniversaries and are away from her alot being in the service my guess would be a vacation for the two of you. Something where you get to spend time together. If you are strapped for cash it can be a local vacation to a time share type resort. You can usually get a week cheap that someone didn't want.

Nothing too big, a small locket in a delicate chain or earings or a sleek ring.
Basically why women like diamonds is because, as they are expensive, gifting them shows how much u value the person.
Gifting diamonds is a way of showing that ur worth is as much as diamonds.

If she is into adventures take her to something that shes always wanted to do.Take her across country just to go to a great restaurant or see a concert/play/movie that shes always wanted to see.Take her on a ghost tour or sky diving.There are things all around the world that could cost a little or a lot.Sometimes its about spontenaity and fun.Go for offbeat and wacky, something that she'd never expect, but would love anyway.

When we were dating my husband rented a plane and had someone fly us over the mountains and to the next state for dinner. He got me a kitten for our first anniversary and one day surprised me with a BMW just because (he sent me a few cryptic emails earlier in the day before letting me see it).
Let your imagination go wild. Try to come up with something totally outrageous and out of the box. Drop a few hints and keep her guessing about what she's in for. She will always remember the anniversary that you did something amazing over the 3 that you missed.

surprise her with a plan ready like a cnadle night dinner with a perfect dress for her and a buch of fresh flowers or even singing out her favourate song or have a walk in the sea shore talking abt how much u missed her when u were in the army even surprise here with cooking her favourite food ur self thats wht i tell my bro in law to do best of luck and hapy aniversary

take her out on a date a romantic dinner maybe if you really want to buy her a gift go ahead it doesnt have to be expensive i think its your presence that would really make the anniv. really special and if ou will be away again for long dont wait for an occassion to make her feel important every single day a wife should be reminded :D phone call, snail mail or e-mail, or leave a sweet note before you leave

A nice cruise trip would be nice or a piece of keepsake jewelry with an inscription on or in it. What about a charm bracelet with a love charm to start it off and a charm for each occasion? Even a simple diamond necklace is nice.
