My Miniature Pinscher had her 5 puppies, and from the last litter we kept one of her puppies. Now that momma had her puppies she has no time for Missy(the one we kept from the last litter. Missy is so sad cause momma won't play with her. She won't eat, and she has not even had a bowel movement since momma had the puppies. She is licking herself raw on one of her legs. Momma lets her sniff the puppies but that is it. What can I do for Missy to help her over the next 8 weeks to be happy?

Oh my gosh you all are so helpful Thank You, and I am doing most of what you all are saying, But I guess the worry of eating and licking is now the biggest. Money although little would not stop me from taking the best care of Missy!

Give it lots of attention and feed it good puppy food and have lots of chew toys all around.

Give Missy extra love and attention, and a special time slot. Also if you notice Momma being nice to her, or showing any positive actions towards Missy, reward Momma and give her love too. Once Momma has settled back down again after the births, she may be more willing to join in with some little games with Missy. I've noticed that animals including some cats, will turn their attention away from their offspring for a while, I wonder if it's natures way of making them independent of the Mum?

Keep Missy from Momma and the pups and entertain her human style. Take her to the park, take her to get groomed, feed her the good puppy food- whatever. Just keep her away from the other dogs for now and keep her occupied. Outta sight, outta mind for dogs. They live in the moment and won't remember what they were sad about after a few hours. When the pups are sold or get big enough, Momma will be back to normal and you can re-introduce Missy to the family.

AAaaaaaw! Poor puppy! Maybe you could take the puppies from Missy an hour a day, and let Missy spend some time with her... Give them some "mother daughter time"... Keep the puppy with plenty of water, food, and give her treats. This would be a good time to train the puppy because she is starving for attention. Be sure to keep her busy and trying new things. Maybe this is Missy's way of telling her it's time to grow up...
Take her to Petsmart, and take a look at the training programs for dogs. If you like what they are doing, and think it would be a good idea for puppy to join. Enroll her in the program. She will have interaction with other dogs, and make new friends... And who knows... Maybe you will find another Pinscher owner that would like to breed them when the puppy gets older....
As for the licking... I would suggest you put some cream or salve made just for that... I am not sure of the name of the cream but it should be something that tastes yucky. I think she is doing this because her mommy no longer licks her....
I hope this situation works out and that I am a help.
Much love.
And remember doggies, are little furry humans.

Sit down with Missy in the midst of Momma and her pups, and supervise interaction. Before you know it they will all be interacting. Also, you should take the Momma away from the pups for an hour or so a couple times a day, when you do that put her and Missy in an area together with the food dish she may eat then.

Spend extra time with Missy. If she is allowed, let her sleep in your room or even your bed. Give her special treats just for her. Take her for walks & one on one playtime.
It's normal for a Mom to ignore all other dogs when she has a new litter. They need her full attention & energy.
Good luck!

Your domestic dog is in simple terms that she's a splash ball of potential crammed with like to furnish you as you're her protector and new mom....for the two% of love you provide her she has a hundred% in return for you and as she gets older she would be in a position to love you much greater and could become your protector and to tell if she's satisfied that little tail it quite is wagging away is the tell tail sign that she's better than satisfied to work out you....the only time a domestic dog is genuinely unhappy is whilst your long previous because of fact they want to be with you.....i'm hoping this helps you and a Dogue de bourdeux is that one among those beautiful animal you have an extremely unswerving better half there I wish you 2 many satisfied joyis years mutually & confirm to take a lot of domestic dog photos for her scrap e book that's what I genuinely have for each of my canines..reliable success Emily

If your puppy has not had a bowel movement in days (not sure how long it has been since the puppies were born- you haven't clarified that?) and is not eating and is exhibiting signs of stress (licking herself raw) I would definitely take her to a vet, pronto. She may need love and private time but she may also need medical attention, laxative, appetite stimulant, anal glands expelled, sedative (hopefully not all at ONCE!!).
If you truly love her you will look out for her best interests, even if it costs a few hard earned dollars to hear from a vet that you are doing the most that you can already, or need to do more.

Spend lots of time playing with her. She's just missin her momma so lots of love and attention would really make her feel better. A few new toys would be good too :)
