Heaven is only available for those who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Water baptism has nothing to do with it. Baptism by the Holy Spirit has everything to do with it, but this occurs when a person accepts Jesus. The Jesus that the Mormon preach is another Jesus that is not in the Bible. Jesus Christ warned of this. I do not know why intelligent people believe the garbage that is printed in the Book of Mormon----it is so ridiculous, like you have to have on resurrection underwear when you die in order to go to heaven.

Like every kooky idea Christians have, they got it straight out of the bible.

Why baptize babies then???? I was baptized as a child, before I could form my own beliefs, and now I'm an atheist.
Your question about the Mormons, who judging from your judgment believe pretty much the same stuff as you (God, Jesus, that stuff), should lead you to my question and make you wonder about your own rituals.
I've seen a lot of questions on here about Mormons from other Christians that seem to be a bit of an attack, those who believe in the same god, regardless of how they do it or show it, should stick together. this is one of the reasons I eventually questioned Christianity and lead to me becoming who I am today.

As an atheist I have actually been friends with many Mormons and of all the faiths they seem to have been the only ones that would not try to argue with me about faith once they found out what I believed. They didn't have any anger or resentment towards me for it, they just saw me for who i am not what i believe.

The reason they believe this is because in the mormon doctrine it is said that during the time that people walk the earth the dead will wait for every ones turn in a sort of halfway house(HH). in this place, it is believed that people that led evil lives or never discovered the gospel can convert and "repent" and receive the remission of sins "babtism" therefore through revelation we are able to get babtized for the dead, and an actual person is babtized by immersion under the understanding that they are speaking and acting for that person.

P.S. The calves are not golden, at least not in any temple that I have been in and they are just a symbol of representation that is understood if you are mormon, and Mormon is actually a derogatory name as this name was begun by people that persecuted the faith. They are actually referred to as Latter Day Saints (LDS) to be politically correct.

I agree with you halfway on this. If what you say about the mormons is true, then that's really loco! People lived all that time and should have sought out God will they were LIVING how can someone else make a decision for them??? Anyways, I do think that baptism is a key factor in people getting to heaven though. Even Jesus himself was baptized to fulfill all righteousness! In John 3:1-8, Jesus tells Nicodemus that in order to get to heaven you must be born again of water and spirit. Only one place in the bible does it say call on the name of the lord and you will be saved. that's in the book of Romans. AND, people take that out of context, because the book of Romans was a letter written to people who were ALREADY christians! Read Acts 2:38 for more clarification. Thanx.

"i mean thats the only way to go to heaven right?"
Are you second guessing yourself??
We believe baptism is a necessary ordinace in order to enter into the kingdom of God after we die, but there is much more than just baptism or "accepting God into your heart".
We believe every person has the right to accept or reject the gospel. In that, we believe there are certain ordinances that must be performed in order to attain the highest degree of glory, the Celestial Kingdom. Baptism, repentance, temple endowment, and new & everlasting covenant of marriage are the key ordinances. They are all performed for the dead by proxy. That does not mean they are automatically Mormon or "saved". That means, if they choose the gospel after this life, their ordinances are already performed for them. can you imagine the sadness of someone who chooses to accept the gospel but does not have that sacred work done for them? They cannot increase or be exalted to the highest kingdom...that would be unfair and God is fair.

Here we are again, trying to clear up teachings that you or others who imply that we taught, which we do not.

Baptism is what Jesus Christ required of us, he himself was baptized as an example to us.Baptism is a covenant with Christ, is an earthly ordinance has to be done here.

Baptism is only the gate way as stated in our doctrine:-
17 Wherefore, do the things which I have told you I have seen that your Lord and your Redeemer should do; for, for this cause have they been shown unto me, that ye might know the gate by which ye should enter. For the gate by which ye should enter is repentance and baptism by water; and then cometh a remission of your sins by fire and by the Holy Ghost.
18 And then are ye in this strait and narrow path which leads to eternal life; yea, ye have entered in by the gate; ye have done according to the commandments of the Father and the Son; and ye have received the Holy Ghost, which witnesses of the Father and the Son, unto the fulfilling of the promise which he hath made, that if ye entered in by the way ye should receive.
19 And now, my beloved brethren, after ye have gotten into this strait and narrow apath, I would ask if all is done? Behold, I say unto you, Nay; for ye have not come thus far save it were by the word of Christ with unshaken faith in him, relying wholly upon the merits of him who is mighty to save.
20 Wherefore, ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a clove of God and of all men. Wherefore, if ye shall press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, and endure to the end, behold, thus saith the Father: Ye shall have eternal life.
(Book of Mormon | 2 Nephi 31:17 - 20)

Concerning baptism for the dead, as I have said before, Baptism is an earthly ordinance. We do it for the dead because, if for any chance that the dead will accept the gospel in the spirit world, the baptism will already be done. As for those that do not believe, the baptism for the dead will be insignificance to them.

Who said the dead cannot speak, doesn't the spirit of the person died live on? doesn't resurrection ring a bell, as Christ has resurrected so we can also be resurrected from death?

When a person is baptized it means they accept Christ as their savior and is forgiven of their sins. LDS (Mormons) baptize the dead to "help" them enter the gates of Heaven by being baptized in their honor. Imagine dying without accepting Christ & you then realize he exists but you didn't accept him before dying. Wouldn't you want a chance to go back to change it so you don't have to live in eternity in damnation. People who have done this for the dead experience many awsome emotions during the process that is undescribable.

Mormons believe that jesus is coming in a flying saucer to take them back to planet heaven where they will be rewarded with many many wives--and you think baptising the dead makes no sense?

It's one of the things that made me drop that religion. My aunt did our family's geneology and sent it in to the Temple at Salt Lake City. She kept trying to convert my grandmother, but Nana never gave in. My aunt told me that it didn't matter, that after she (grandmother) died, she (aunt) would have her baptized and she would then be a Mormon and would be able to go to heaven with her! She did it to everyone that had died in the family. BIZARRE!
