I have heard of people running a wire hanger inside their clothes to help with static, using dryer sheets (wipe it on your hair and hairbrush - smells good too). Also, there is something called Static Guard that I use a lot... here's a link to it on amazon.com which I think has a decent price for it. I'm sure you can find it in the grocery store too... It's normally used for fabrics but I've frequently used it on my hairbrush: http://www.amazon.com/Static-Guard-Cling-Spray-oz/dp/B0006M1EFC/sr=8-1/qid=1160756406/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-4971783-8404715?ie=UTF8

All the above are great tips... you might also try some various products: Farouk Biosilk (in professional salons) is an oily-feeling conditioning and polishing treatment that will add moisture and shine and reduce the fly-away. A generic version is available at Sally Beauty Supply Stores. Any spray leave in conditioner may help... dry hair is more likely to fly-away. A mist of leave-in conditioner can know it back down and continue to impart moisture into your growing hair keeping it healthy as you struggle through that process. Best of luck!

I agree with what a lot of other people are telling you - fabric softener sheets! They really work well, and are easy and cheap to boot! They work the best for me after I've used them in a load of laundry. That's when they have just enough static-busters to tame my hair but not so much that my hair gets oily looking. There are some products out there for winter hair, but none of them have worked for me yet. And the frizz fighter products are too oily and sticky for my thin hair.
Hope that helps!

what state do you live in (don't answer) and how humid is it outside!? Most heaters dry the air in the home and increase the static considerably! Invest in a humidifier that you can plug into a timer so that periodically throughout the day it ' fights' with you against the static Klingon!

Dryer sheets. Just rub it over your hair. You can stick one in a baggie in your purse and carry it with you. They also work for static in skirts or slacks. Just rub the sheet over the inside of your clothes and the static goes away.

lotion is one of the best ways. why do you care what people think?! also, try a leave in conditioner, you can carry it in your bag. another option is any anti-frizz hair product in your drug store.
another great help is bounce anti-static sheets! carry one in your purse and rub is on your hair when you take off your coat. sounds strange, but it works!
