The latest chip from Intel is the Core 2 Duo (nickname Conroe), which is 40% faster than the earlier Pentium-D. Intel has abandoned the name Pentium for it's upcoming chips, because people were getting confused by all the variants- Pentium-M, Pentium 4 HT, Pentium-D etc. That, and the fact that AMD chips were so much better & less expensive than Pentium chips.
Now that the Core 2 Duo has recaptured the title of best processor on the market, using a different name helps distinguish it from the earlier ones. While an AMD AM2 is faster & cheaper than any Pentium, the Core 2 Duo is better than anything currently available from AMD.

I believe p4 is the latest! Though the latest CPU from Intel is the core 2 duo I believe!! At least for the consumer computers! Xeon dual core is I believe the latest for the pro computers.

The dual core.. But pentium 4 still is very good. I had a lot of bad luck with the Dual Core puter that i had and hadto return it. And i also have heard a few other people that had back luck too with Dual Core. So I went back to my Pentium 4 with good luck. So I will wait ahile until they get the bugs out of it...
