If you think that's grandiose and arrogant, read the words to all the stanzas of God Save the Queen: http://ingeb.org/songs/godsaveo.html

Well the song is not asking God not to bless other nations. It is just asking God to bless America in its time of need, but I am sure there are similar sayings/songs in other nations as well.
“God save the queen”
^That is all I can think of at the time though.
P.S. A very interesting question. Thank you for asking it ^^

I don't believe the song asks God to bless ONLY America, to the exclusion of other countries. I also think it's intended to refer only to the USA, not North America or both North and South America.

What a stupid question. It's just a song for pete's sake. No, it's not selfish. It's lyrics to a song....a national anthem. Have you ever seen or heard other national anthems?? Some call for blood shed and the British only hail their Queen in theirs. A national anthem is a song for people of a country to stand behind and show patriotism. Selfish!! LOL
P.S. I love ybot's reply. I hope nobody ever says "God bless you" to you when you sneeze. That is pretty selfish after all!!

As only one country goes by the moniker of America, the point of the song is easily seen. As for an omnipotent, invisible man who sees everything, knows everything (including what you are thinking) and has a special place for bad people and one for good people, well....to each his own. Some Arabs belive they will receive virgins in heaven when they die in battle. Some Chrisitians believe only white people go to heaven. There are nut jobs everywhere, but especially in religion. Me, I believe in myself, my family and certain others. Call me an isolationist @ heart.

Why would it be selfish?Every country can have there own song about blessing their country.
i don`t think its selfish to ask god to bless America that's the country you live in......don`t you want it to be blessed.
Its refers to whoever you want it to refer to.

I'm glad God blesses America, if it really bothers you why don't you write a song for other countries?

I amtired of hearing about immigrants, god loves everyone and Bush with his propoganda makes me sick, we DO need to tighten our borders, but the way illegals are being treated and called names makes me sick! good thing god knows no predujice, and I wonder sometimes what he thinks of us
