64 is twice as fast (notice 32 is half of 64). Same with a 16 bit verses an 8 bit. I don't think you CAN run a 32 on a 64 anyway, its only downward compatible (you CAN run a 32 on a 64 but not the other way around). I may be wrong, though.

I don't think anythings "happens" - I'm not even sure you can run the 64bit app on a 32 bit comp...YES - 64 bit runs faster, but you need to have 64 bit apps to run on the 64 bit comp, 32 bit apps will not run on a 64 bit comp, that's my understanding of it...I recently bought a new system and stayed away from anything 64 bit because the programs I work with are all 32 bit apps, I don't plan on upgrading them all!

running a 64 bit app is like trying to have an entire "subway sub" a foot long on one go. trying to eat more that what you can assimilate causes indigestion. same is good for computers. a 64 bit application is not meant to run on a 32 bit platform, whereas a 32 bit app can run in a 64 bit environment,
yes 64 bit systems are pretty faster than 32 bit systems in terms of number crunching capabilities, as they take double the amount of data to process in each cycle.

you can not run a 64 bit application on a 32 bit computer...and yes 64 bit computing should be more faster because the bandwidth is larger so more computing can be done
