Its okay to use a straightening iron as long as you don't use it every day or you put some kind of conditioning treatment in your hair before you use it and maybe after too since your hair is thick! I would use the straightener tonight but just make sure you use conditioning treatment before! But you can use your straightening iron more often just don't use it too much and try blow dryng your hair straight first so you don't have to use the straightening iron on all of your hair! Hope this helps! Good Luck!

I always straighten my hair with a cermaic flat iron and my hair isn't visibly damaged. If anything I need to get it trimmed more often because of split ends but my hair as a whole is still in good shape. I always wash my hair the night before and let it air dry with a leave in conditioner. The next morning I lightly spray my hair with a product for heat styling and then straighten it.
I have friends who never protect their hair with a product before using a flat iron and their hair is clearly damaged and looks like straw.

Basically, all heat styling damages hair. The more you straighten, the more damaged it gets. If this is the one and only time you use the hair iron, the damage shouldn't be too bad though.
Have you considered blow drying your hair with a round brush instead?

first of all, long hair is mostly a plus with adult males! 2d, once you purchase a straightener, don't get a decrease priced one. i do no longer straighten mine individually, it has organic curl, even with the undeniable fact that it rather is purely too long to twist, yet my sister and terrific pal do. They the two have a straightener they the two payed approximately $one hundred for. The greater low priced they're the greater injury it motives. you will additionally prefer to get some style of product that helps with warmth injury, to apply pre-straightening. do by no ability straighten on an identical time as your hair is moist. That motives considerable injury. And preserve your hair, use reparing shampoos and a sturdy conditioner. desire this helps. and that i'm advantageous your hair is captivating.

If you use a straightening iron sporadically it really won't damage your hair. To be on the safe side you should use one of the newest ceramic irons. I have the CHI and it's great. Ceramic irons are a lot better for your hair than the cheap old ones. I've used many irons on my curly hair but the CHI and Sedu are the best! They are somewhat expensive though....$125-180, but well worth the results. no frizz and no damage! Iron and relax.

I'm not an expert, but I do occasionally use a straightener (and I too have very thick hair).
I don't notice any damage. I think if you don't use it all the time, it shouldn't cause you any problem. Use it on dry hair though, I think it can damage wet hair.

i straighten my hair everyday and i always get compliments on how silky and shiney it is. I shampoo and conditioner everyday and use pantene pro-v as often as i can. I blow dry it, and it helps if u use a straightening formula while ur hair is wet and when its dry. I have garnier frutics smoothing milk which i put in when my hairs wet, blow dry, then straighten. then i use dove smooth and soft after i straighten it. Make sure you get ur hair cut ever 6-8 weeks so the ends do not look fried or damage. One time use is not gonna hurt it at all.

If you use it occasionally it won't hurt your hair, Actually it can be helpful...Your hair is made up of layers of cells sort of like shingles on a roof. and a straighening Iron lets all these layers lay flat against themesleves...re-enforcing them preventing breakage. If done too often though it will wear down the structural integrity of your hair shaft and can make breakage inevitable...you have to find a happy medium. Once a week won't hurt your hair. More than 3 times a week can fry it.

Hope this helps

It depends on how coarse your hair is (the coarser, the longer you'll have to keep the heat on), and what products you use to protect the hair shaft from the heat. I'd suggest having a professional do it first to see what products they use to keep your hair from being damaged. If you have long hair and don't mind split ends, go ahead. If you care about getting split ends, go to a professional.

i straighten my hair sometimes (with a hair iron) and i didnt notice any different. I think its only really bad to straighten when you relax and perm your hair. just so you know, it take me about 2 hours for my hair to get straight and my hair medium-length. If i were you, i'd get started soon.
