Islam means : submission
The religion of all prophets of God was Islam.
[3:19] The religion before God is Islam (submission to his will): nor did the people of the book dissent therefrom except through envy of each other, after knowledge had come to them. but if any deny the signs of. God, God is swift in calling to account.
The religion was fulfilled 3 months before death of Muhammad (sas) by that verse:
[5:3]this day have I perfected your religion for you, completed my favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion.

'Islam' is arabic for 'submission', because true islam is supposed to be complete submission to the will of God.

the faith of God has nothing to do with people names, places, or race. the faith of God is about submiting to Him alone and worship God alone and that's the definition of Islam.
