Great question Jibba
First of all, the Bible tells that you are saved if you believe that Jesus have suffered and died in the place of each of us who has been and still sins and that Jesus rose back from the dead and is now with our Father in heaven. There's nothing else we can do to be saved but to believe that only God can do it.
Now there are christians who believes that whoever is saved will be whatever they do after, and others that believes that you can loose that state. A matter of fact, human will always sins since we are not perfect and God obviously knows it.
For my part, I believe that there are no little or big sins. So, what could I do to lose the state of being saved, if I cannot save myself? In other words, only God can save me. So as long as I believe it, I don't see any problem with salvation.

The bible is clear that we make the choice about where to spend eternity - eternity is a given for all. When I say I'm saved, I mean that Christ (by his blood on the cross) has saved me from hell (an eternal existance without God) and from being accountable for all my sins. Yes, I could probably do anything and ask for forgiveness, but there is a concept of cheap grace that would explain that - someone truly Christian wouldn't want that, so we try to follow the saviours behaviour as best we can - knowing we'll fall short and need his saving blood to stand before the Father at the end of time as we know it. God bless you. ~Nise~

Here's the basic run down.
You were born into sin as a result of the fall of man. All men sin, there are no exceptions. Everyone falls short of the perfect standard God sets for us. We all deserve death (if you don't think so it's because of a human understanding of justice), but there is good news! When Jesus sacrificed himself on the cross, he paid for your sin. If you would only accept his free gift, He will wash away your sin and you will be pure before God.
So that's what is meant by being "saved". It means you are saved by the grace of Christ from the certain punishment that you rightly deserve.

Being saved means that you have believe and trusted in what the Lord Jesus Christ did for you on the cross. He died for your sins, He was buried and took your sins away and He rose again the third day for your justification. It mean that you are saved from the wrath of God that will fall on all that have rejected what the Lord Jesus Christ done for all that would believe. 1 Corinthians 15: 3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 1 Corinthians 15: 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

Salvation is an act of humbling ourselves before God.
Admitting our sins, imperfections, shortcomings, and bad attitudes, knowing that those things bring eternal damnation to mankind.
Our (mankind's) only hope is a Savior that has paid the blood sacrifice penalty of the Old Testament for our sins.
We profess a belief in Jesus as that Savior because He filled all the requirements (prophecies) regarding the Messiah to come as far back as Genesis 3:15.

"Being saved" means that you have accepted the free gift of salvation offered by Jesus Christ to all persons. When we Christians say that when someone gets “saved”, it means they have put their trust in Jesus Christ, whom the Bible identifies as the Son of God, to “save” them from eternal punishment in Hell (the place of eternal torment) after they die.The Bible says that all people are sinners and that sin brings death (Romans 3:23 and 6:23). God won't allow sin into Heaven, so Christians believe that people need to be cleansed from their sins to experience life in Heaven with God.The Bible says that God has already made this easy for us by allowing Jesus Christ to die for our sins so that we can have salvation (get saved). All we have to do is receive this free gift. It is like a situation in which you cannot get something yourself because the price is too high, and then someone pays for it for you. You still won't have the item until you decide to receive the gift.

Being saved means you have accepted Jesus and you are going to follow Him and obey His word.
Max Marie is totally wrong
God promises us salvation.
Jesus died for our sins. Even if you were the only one on the earth He still would have died for you.
If you don't know that you are saved or not, most likely you aren't
Here is a great website to go that gives scriptures of promises and truly knowing if you are saved or not
http://www.mindsync.com/~lam/saved.htm
Max Marine-you need to visit this site
God bless you both!

No one knows for certain if they are saved. They will only know at the time of their death. That's a fundamental difference between Protestants and Catholics. Some Protestant denominations teach that if you're rich you know you're saved. Some teach that if you speak in tongues you know you're saved. Some teach that all you have to do is invite Jesus into your heart and you are saved.
But the bible is pretty specific. One can never know. Not even Saint Paul who wrote a significant chunk of the New Testament knew for certain that he was going to Heaven.

Saved is being a believer, a reader, a hearer, and a doer of God's Word.
If all of these precepts are not being carried out in your life then you have some work to do.
