Yes they believe there is an eternal string of Gods going back into eternity past. They believe that Our God was once equal to us in a condition where we were all uncreated intelligences. They believe that is they live their life according to the Law and ordinances of the Mormon Gospel they will become Gods and create (organize) worlds of their own and populate them by having sexual relations with one of their many wives.
The way the get around what the Bible says about God being the Only God there is, is by saying the Bible is only about this world so yes He is the only God for this world.. I have been around and around this many times with them. I use Isaiah 44:10 and that is always the same answer I get.. Jim

Yes, we believe God our Father had a Father and He had one and on and on...
We believe God is OUR God, the only one, none before Him are OUR God and none after Him will be OUR God. He is the Alpha and Omega because He is OUR God.
I am not sure why that is so hard to understand....does it NOT make perfect sense that we as His children can also become like Him (NOT above Him ever) but He wants us to inherit everything He has.
Consider the words of this hymn (one of my favorites):
(Kolob is the star which the Lord lives closest to we believe)
"If You Could Hie to Kolob"
If you could hie to Kolob In the twinkling of an eye,
And then continue onward With that same speed to fly,
Do you think that you could ever, Through all eternity,
Find out the generation Where Gods began to be?
Or see the grand beginning, Where space did not extend?
Or view the last creation, Where Gods and matter end?
Me thinks the Spirit whispers, "No man has found 'pure space,'
Nor seen the outside curtains, Where nothing has a place."
The works of God continue, And worlds and lives abound;
Improvement and progression Have one eternal round.
There is no end to matter; There is no end to space;
There is no end to spirit; There is no end to race.
There is no end to virtue; There is no end to might;
There is no end to wisdom; There is no end to light.
There is no end to union; There is no end to youth;
There is no end to priesthood; There is no end to truth.
There is no end to glory; There is no end to love;
There is no end to being; There is no death above.
There is no end to glory; There is no end to love;
There is no end to being; There is no death above

We believe God the Eternal Father is "God"
We believe Jesus Christ, the son of God is "God."

Now , can you comprehend this Father and son relationship?
you have a dad don't you? and your dad has a dad also.

When God say he is Alpha and Omega, the only God, he implied to Man that there is only one God they should worship, because clearly in the scriptures there is more than one being of God as
show in these scriptures.

26 ¶ And God said, Let us make man in our image,
(Old Testament | Genesis 1:26)

22 ¶ And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us,
(Old Testament | Genesis 3:22)

1 AND then the Lord said: Let us go down. And they went down at the beginning, and they, that is the Gods, organized and formed the heavens and the earth.
(Pearl of Great Price | Abraham 4:1)

Just one of the many things Smith got twisted up. If you want to see more, look at the LDS section on this page...
