The objective was to create a Democratic/Republic government in the Middle East after several fits (shooting at U.S. planes, still killing Iraqis and not allowing the nuclear weapons inspectors to do their job) with Saddam.

There is a clause in the Geneva convention that the occupying force has to provide secuity until the defeated enemy country can get back on its feet. That's where the U.S. military is at now. By the begining of next year, the U.S. and Britian will have handed over 75% of the land back to the Iraqi government (which now exists). By 2008, all the land will probably be back in the hands of the new Iraqi government and the U.S.soldiers would be leaving. The British soldiers would be gone before that.

Was Saddam associated with terrorism? he was a terrorists to the Iraqi people and his neighbors. He also funded the terrorist groups out to destroy Israel and had continious contact with Al Qeda.

Did the U.S. find weapons of mass destruction? Yes, the Congress announced this year that 500 shells had been found with the goods still end them. Sure some said that they wouldn't have been effective as new chemicals (they chemicals degrade with time), but a car without gas is still a car and a rifle without a bullet is still a rifle. These were suppose to have been destroyed. Some others could be in homes, destroyed when the U.S. was blowing up bunkers and weapons depots or burried in the sand (Saddam burried whole fighter planes in the sand).

The violence is in just like three or four cities in a country the size of California. I would say the violence is equal to the U.S. mob wars of the 1930s.

Here is the sensible answer some think was not possible:

The objective in Iraq is to establish a democracy and give civil liberties to the people of Iraq. Plain and simple!

The way we are accomplishing it is by bringing about stability by combatting and arresting insurgents, most of whom are not even Iraqis, that are trying to destabilize the situation.

The difficulty (I know you did not ask for this) is that there are deeply embedded disdain and hatred between the Sunni and the Shiites, mostly because they have never had the advantage of a political system where they can have their differences and yet come together for the national good.

The hope is that once we stabilize and bring about democracy and civil liberties, the people of Iraq will begin to pursue prosperity and gain success in their lives, which, in turn, will make recruiting for terrorists difficult. In addition, we hope to gain an ally that has friendly economic relations with us as they can provide oil at a price that brings competition to OPEC.

What is in our favor is the fact that Iraq has a strong middle class system, unlike many other Muslim countries, something that tremendously supports democracy and visa versa. They also have a good university system (now that it is operating again!) and Iraqis are also more educated than many of their Muslim counterparts. Their leading economic indicators also point to the potential for a thriving economy, once the region is stabilized.

Here's the reality: This isn't going to happen overnight. It will probably even take more than a decade. Consider how long it took between the settlement of North America to the establishment of the U.S. and then consider the divide we had until after the civil war. Bringing about democracy is a long process, but if we are patient, I believe dividends will be felt if not by us in our aging years, then by our children or grandchildren.

First, the main question made sense. You appeared to be looking for the Republican view of what the objective is of the war in Iraq and what are we doing to accomplish it. But you followed it up with insults.

I am a Republican. I feel I understand the purpose the war was started (some positive some negitive) but I'm not going to get into it here because I do not believe in insulting Democrats or Liberals.

Do you understand the concept of Balance? And that too much of one thing is not good in any circumstance.

I know many Democrats and Liberals. I don't always agree with them on issues but they are intelegent and well thought out points of view that are just different than mine. I also believe that these same people respect my opinion as well while not necessarily agreeing with my views.

I am sick and tiered of both sides slinging mud. How stupid and juvinile is this... People have to start understanding that there are always not just two sides to a story but multiple sides and most are valid based off of a view point.

It's only through intelegent discussion and debate that we are strong. Not stupid mud slinging. So again I believe I could answer this question but choose not to here. The original question stated by itself seemed well thought out but followed by insults, just fuels the fire of distrust and distain.

Democracy is the objective in Iraq. Maybe at one point it was WMD, but we all now that is no longer the case. I believe we are winning the war in Iraq. Listen we started it over 35 years ago, giving money, weapons, aid to the middle east. This is something that has to stop, and it's not going to happen overnight. Remember my friend they want us dead!!!!

First of all - "all of you know Dems and libs are morons" That sentence in itself is the most moronic thing I've ever heard. That's like saying all black people are drug dealers. Republicans and Democrats both have their equal share of uninformed morons...a category in which you just eloquently plopped yourself right into.

P.S. We aren't winning, no one is.

LOL, I guess I didn't...It so closely resembles the other non-joking questions!

Go Republican JOHN! I like his answer...pick him!

The objective is distraction, confusion and "smoke and mirrors" so the American citizenry is blind to the misdeeds and immoral conduct of those in power. And yes, for once I agree with Dumbya..."Mission Accomplished." FYI...I am affiliated with neither corrupt political party....politics is yet another cog in the wheel of misinformation.
