any ideas? my mum isnt much of a animal person... but my dad is... help!!!! i really want a dog

Well if you are like other kids who want a dog, you would have to prove that you would help in the care and maintenance of the animal. Most women end up doing it all so I can see why your mother is leery of it.

Your parents were young once too and they know what happens when a young kid gets a new puppy. Its oh how cute until it starts to poop all over the place and then it grows and so does the size of its poop and the smell. By this time the kid that oh so wanted that cute little puppy is to busy with this and that and the other thing and the puppy now a dog ends up the parents problem. If you want to really get a dog get a job first so you can help pay for the food since the food is not cheap and neither are the vet visits for the shots and check ups. Prove you can be responsible and will always take care of the dog even when it is full grown. It is an everyday job taking care of a dog not just when ever you feel like it. I am sure if you prove to your parents that they wont be the ones spending all kinds of cash on a dog and that they wont be the ones shoveling poop they will let you get a dog. They are not tring to be mean by not letting you get one right now they are really thinking about the dog and what might happen and they dont want to see a dog end up getting forgotten in the back yard. I would say that they are both being animal lovers. Really think about all the work that is involved with owning a dog. I have 3 and trust me its a BIG BIG job. They have to be fed and brushed daily and outside has to be cleaned daily really twice daily and they have to be excercised and they need attention constantly and not just when you feel like it. The daddy of the one that is my avatar goes with me everywhere. Think long and hard about if you are really ready to take on all that responsiblity.

The best way to convince parents to get a any pet is to promise them that you will take full responsibility for the pet. In the case of a dog, that means that you will have to assure them that you will walk the dog twice a day, feed him twice a day, train him to go to the toilet in the right place, and socialize him properly so that he doesn't bark at strangers or nip at people.
A pet is a big responsibility and it's a lifelong commitment. Are YOU up to the task? I would seriously advise that you do your research carefully. Find out exactly what will be required. If you think you can make a full commitment, then get a dog.

Mums can just do u in. There opinion is like a wall. You probably will just have to wait till your 18 or you should try to figure something out with your dad. Try telling her that "dogs are loyal and are a loving friend and will never back down when u need to cry on there furry shoulder" or something. GOOD LUCK

I shouldn't tell you this,
Figure out what animal they would not want even more than they don't want a dog. Tell them you want that animal Maybe borrow that animal from a friend and bring it home. They may settle for the lesser evil and let you have a dog.

I just brought mine home. My mom hated chihuahuas and didnt want another dog at all! Infact after I bought him I told my mom and she told me not to come home and to return him! Ofcoarse i didnt listen. When I brought him home I made sure she knew he was MY dog. I buy his food, took him to the vet, walk him, and buy his toys. My mom never has to worry about him at all. I potty trained him and put him in puppy classes. My mom loves him now and wouldnt give him up for the world! :) I was also 21 at the time, so I was able to do this myself.
Its better to ask for forgiveness than ask for permission.......trust me!

show them that your responsible and walk other people's dogs and offer to pay for it, and feed it, and take care of it, and pay for the doctor bills, and pay for whatever it needs
