There has been a marked rise in digital photo frames. We are trying to understand why people would use a digital photo frame e.g. are these people who used to print photos out? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

We print them out or download them to be printed. We have reached the stage where we have a forest of photos of frames with great pictures in them. We were tempted to get a digital frame so that we can load it with images and watch it cycle through while only having a small footprint. Then we realized that we also enjoyed the decorative frames themselves which were relevant to the images (like flowery ones to go with outdoor portraits). So we are stuck with our frame forest rather then jumping to the digital frame.

To me, having a digital photo frame would not mean that I would stop printing photos.

However, I would still love to have one. The only thing holding me back is the price. I don't understand why these 5" LCD screens go for $150 or more, when you can buy a 19" computer for the same price. I know, it has to have a memory card reader and a processing unit in it, but still, the price does not seem justified. If the price ever drops to $50, I'll be buying one.

Yes - I gave the Ceiva digital frame to my parents & inlaws several years ago for Christmas, and they still absolutely love it. This is a great way to share photos with them because they don't have emails or even use a computer. I set up free accounts for me & my wife's brothers and sisters, and they can upload family photos to the digital frame. My inlaws are able to see photos of their grand kids from overseas this way.

I would love to get that as a gift! But what about purchasing the jewelery you want the girls to wear at the wedding? Or, in a wedding I was in, the bride paid for our hair and nails, which was great! But if you've already considered those options and they're not right for you, I think the frame is a great idea! EDIT: That's awesome that you're taking care of their hair and nails AND getting them a gift! In that case, I think the frame is perfect!

I wouldn't mind a frame with a large memory for a large amount of photos. Have it hold like 100 photos and then switch randomly every 10 minutes.

So you don't have to print photos out and put them in the frames. Plus if someone is coming round you can change them to something more appropriate.

What I like is the ability to show more than one picture. This is true of either the kind that mount on the wall or sit on your desk.

Generally, you can either download the files to the frame software or , and I like this better, some of the frames use media cards. You can download files to it and never have to move the frame.

I totally want one. I think they're great. I don't think that the people who used to print photos are the people who are getting them, though, I think the people who are getting them are teh people who wouldn't print photos because they knwe they would lose them, or never frame them.

Sounds pretty good, but also pretty expensive (I haven't looked).

Probably the sort of thing a techno-granny would have - a load of photos of their grandchildren cycling through when her friends come round for tea!

I wouldn't have one myself, I never was one for framed photos.

I think they are neat, especially if you can add more than one image and have it alternate. Plus once you know the gamma of the monitor and the lighting of the room you can tweak the picture specifically. With a print this would be terribly expensive.
